When replacing batteries on the new cars with all the electronics. I simply put a trickle charger on the terminals prior to removing first the negative then the positive. I then replace the battery with no memory loss. No programming required. Car never knows the battery was replaced.

I would not do that. If you have a spike in voltage or A/C voltage from the charger, damage to the electrical system can occur.
