If you want to get more clearance to get the reinforcement plate into position remove the top nuts and have both struts hang down at the same time. Once you use the floor jack to lower the second side the tension on the sway bar will be released and it will stop holding up the other side and instead provide weight that will bring both control arms and struts down.
