automatic trans question
If i take out the inspection plug how much fluid should come out. When i unscrewed mine almost a quart and a half come out before it stopped. I pulled out the over flow pipe and let the rest drain. Is this normal or has someone overfilled my transmission. It is over filled what harm will it do to the trans

Hello Rick. I believe you have a first gen R53 correct? Just want to make sure we're talking about that automatic transmission. Did you follow the directions in our tech article for the automatic fluid change? You drained the fluid with the vehicle up to spec temp correct? It's important to remember that fluid temperature is key here. If the tranny is not between 95 and 113 deg. F, the fluid will not drain completely. You'll need around 6 quarts to fill the transmission completely.

I have followed the tech article to the letter, but I think that the fluid level in the sump is controlled by the over flow pipe. If this is true I do not think fluid should come when you take out the inspection plug.
