My partner has a 2007 Mini One 1.4

I am continuously adding oil. There are not leaks, no smoke from the exhaust, although there is a lot of soot in the tailpipe.

The engine management light has come on twice recently. The first time showed an error with the cat, the second time showed an error with the cat and the crank shaft I think that's what he said. The mechanic told me about the law suit in America and said he couldn't do anything except change the engine. He said it was all linked to oil use.

Is there any solution? Can the engine be refurbished?

I would suggest having your mechanic check why the oil is being used. Is it worn engine parts or faulty crankcase breather.

Soot on the tailpipes of the R56 is normal and will happen. I suggest picking up a product called "Never Dull." It'll clean up your tailpipes beautifully - this is unrelated to your oil consumption. What are the exact P codes the tech found? How many miles are on your MINI?
