I am stepping off the treadmill tomorrow
After 13 years at my company, tomorrow will be my last day. Next week, myself and 3 others are kicking off our new company. We have real backing from a large venture capitalist, it’s going to be an interesting ride for the next few years...
On the upside, if things don’t work out, I can always go back.

Now in 993 land ...

Good luck man, but all you are doing now is going from a treadmill straight to running a marathon. You'll report to the VC, the board etc. - just switched the bosses!

More like a steeplechase instead of a marathon. Best of luck, and set aside some time for yourself.

My uncle used to say "**** luck". Work hard, set goals you can believe in & go for it.
It's absolutely true. ![]()

Just kidding. ![]() Good luck, management of stress is going to be essential, you might actually want to keep a treadmill in the corner. ![]()

So, how about a bit more detail? Opening a brothel?

UncleB, owning a business is a completely difference animal from being a salaried employee. I trust you will enjoy it as much as I do. Get some.

This is a very accurate statement.
In 1997 I walked away and opened my own company with a Visa gold card. It has been a wild ride with zero regrets. I could never work for someone again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

Yeah, not so much. I couldn't anyway. Once you are the master of your own destiny, it's very hard to go back to "high school" with all the associated drama in the average workplace. No thanks.

Well, the sun still came up this morning so that’s good.
The new co will be an oilfield service company. I have hit a home run so to speak in this area previously with one of my inventions having brought in ~$600M in revenue and currently being used in 1/3 of the wells currently being drilled in North America. As an employee, I got paid a salary and a meager bonus for this. This time, it’s my turn to reap the rewards. My current (past) employer is very supportive of my decision to give this a try, almost every member of the executive team (including the president / ceo) reached out to me offering their congratulations for landing the opportunity I did. The VC I am working with is one of the largest in North America. Start ups are their business. It’s going to be a wild ride for the next few years.
