My Unimog 416 Doka restoration project
I have had this truck for about six years, I got it from a customer who did not have the money to finish the restoration. Since I saw no way of getting paid, I ended up buying it. I overpaid, as I am only using the cab, frame, axle housings, and a few other small parts. Everything else is being replaced. Any parts I have new I am using on this truck. I am replacing the motor with a OM352A with less than 1 hour of run time on it! A factory rebuilt SEE transmission. All new fast portal and superfast ring & pinion gearing and bearings in the axles. giving a top speed of 80MPH. Complete replacement of all brake components. Right now the motor, transmission and axles are in the sandblasted and repainted frame. Rear winch is in as are all the brakes. More photos and info can be found here. Diesel Unimog New & Used Parts & Vehicles | VonsMog on the current parts page. I will update my website as I go along. Hope to have it done by this fall.

Wow, nice work! Restoring/rebuilding such a large vehicle is a challenge in an of itself!

what a fantastic build, this Unimog was very lucky to find you, please keep pictures coming as you make progess
would you mind explaining what processes and materials you use on the chassis as, I have a much smaller 4x4 restoration I would like to do one day It would be good to know what is the best way of restoring the chassis as I only want to do it once

That thing is AWESOME. I want one badly.
I'm curious about that very serious looking winch. Is it used to pull the Mog out of trouble, or other vehicles? What would be this thing's "native" territory/ use? |

Today I got a chance to start bending the new headers for the turbo. I have changed my design on the turbo setup, as with the transmission I am using I can got over the top of it and into a water/air intercooler. Then up to the intake/valve cover. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I want to know what kind of situation you could get into that would require a Mog to need a wench. I am imagining the phrase hold my beer would be involved

Thanks Von,
I see you need big tools for the big toys you build Your Snap-on cabinet is only a little smaller than my house

I have never had a need for a "wench"! but I might need a winch if I sink up to my steps in the mud. Or if I had a real big "wench" with me! That would be a hold my beer moment for sure!! But then my wife would have a say about that!!

Well it was the correct spelling of the wrong word. For me that is a good step.
