Any classic Porsche 911/912 Rental In LA?
I was wondering if anyone around LA knows a place where I can rent a 911SC or a 912E. I wanna drive the car for a couple of days and see how like it in general and if I would really want to own one. Please let me know.

Out of curiosity I checked Turo and there's nothing older than a 997.1 around L.A.

My guess is that peeps in Cali just don't think "old" 911s are that cool. Then there's the costs involved in an old 911 compared to a new one that's probably still under warranty and can be leased or whatever these sorts of places do. I suspect it's just not financially viable.

The congested roads of L A with the often stop and go driving is not a great place to enjoy the experence of driving a classic 911 . A good work out for your clutch leg tho.
I know there are some hills to drive in but what you have to go thru to get there. Ugh. Flame shield up. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 07-24-2018 at 05:26 AM.. |

AB911, I hadn't noticed that you live in LA.
You probably know routes and times that would let you get some enjoyment driving there. Cheers Richard |

Gotta make friends with the cars and coffee guys. I haven never notice any classic 911s for rent. Driving a stick daily isn't all the bad around her. Done it for years. Driving a car without A/C, now that's unacceptable. This would be a air cool 911.

About 12 yrs ago when I lived in Santa Monica, right down the road from me there was a small place on Lincoln Blvd in Venice/Marina Del Rey that was renting an 80s 928. That was a 20 year old car at the time. Always thought that it would be cool to try it out for the day.
I agree with others that it would be difficult to find a place that rents air cooled cars. As an owner, could you imagine how many 915s you’d be replacing with ham fisted renters.

On the otherhand, Growing up, I have always loved the mark 1 and 2 VW golf GTIs. Of course there is a minimum of $15k difference between the GTI and a 912E and even maybe $35k with 911SC. I just wanna live with the porsche a couple of days and see if I really really want to own one, or I gotta go with the GTI. Last edited by AB911; 07-24-2018 at 05:07 PM.. |

They are not too fun to drive so ya gotta to drive em'. Depending on which year, the shifting is clunky (yeah, go ahead you guys, I have my flame suit on already
) and it really that fast compare to cars build after 2005 or 6. The up keep is usually more for all the parts needed but they are usually pretty solid if you buy a good one. The AC button is there to fill a hold and that's it.

The 3.0 and 3.2 L cars are more modern and easier to live with. The G50 transmission's shifting is better or should I say modern, not easier.

Yes, I would assume so. I am considering 912E because that’s considerably cheaper. I know it does not have the performance of the SC but it is a decent aircooled car with very good mpg and essentially a VW engine, plus it still looks exactly like a 911 which I like.

I took a long MC ride on Sunday evening from central LA to Beverly Hills, up Coldwater canyon to Mulholland and then Mulholland to the eastern end. All I could think about was how insanely beautiful and made for driving this city is.

My wife and I would drive up from south OC to enjoy those “hills.” And then drive back to south OC. Angeles Crest. Mulholland Highway and the other canyon roads. Worth it, without question.

I live 5 minutes away from the entrace to CA 2 freeway. Real heads in LA know where the 2 takes you. Absolute beauty!
