The bulk of my "fun car" budget is allocated to gutted and caged vehicles since I started wheel-to-wheel racing. I currently own 2.5 race cars, and 4 street cars. My truck is the only pricey street legal vehicle, the other 3 are older Mercedes.
I don't miss the 997 Turbo at all. There are moments where I miss the 930, and I do think about having an aircooled street toy again, but I am racing 1.5 aircooled cars so I get my fix on the track.

This is a funny topic because I have been thinking about getting rid of everything but the 930. I don't drive the Mustang and am going to give it to my son. And I have a 74 911 I bought to make into a light weight Autocross/ Track Day / Hot Rod. But as the OP posted; I too am thinking of getting rid of some "Things" and going simpler. The 930 checks off so many boxes in one package I think I can be happy with it as my only toy.

I’m almost ready to sell the 1975 hotrod 911 widebody as I haven’t driven it much. So technically, yes, but...I’m going to the dark side and buying a hotrod 1961 Corvette.
Please don’t throw things, you are far more civilized than that!

We have a 2013 Nissan Rogue that is so not fun it sucks the fun out of driving the Cobra replica and the XT600 bike combined. It has as much fun about it as Rodney Dangerfield had respect. If fun were measured by temperature it would be sitting at near 0* kelvin.

After years of leasing crappy little cars for my wife (she sees cars as appliances), I finally decided that ALL of our cars must be fun in some way. So her current leased ride is a 2017 VW Golf Sportwagen. The thing is very nice to drive, the turbo motor is a hoot, and it has nearly the utility of a pickup truck. This one we'll purchase when the lease is up.
I find myself looking at early 90s Toyota 4Runners from time to time. I had a '92 for awhile, and it was a nice rig. A great around utility vehicle, and lots of fun to drive, as long as I wasn't dragging along something too heavy. Sold it because I needed a longer wheelbase and more power to tow race cars. |

I've had times with no fun car(s) and according to my wife I'm unpleasant when that's the case. I've also had times with too many fun cars, and frankly hard as it might be to believe, that's not much better in terms of juggling maintenance, bills, parking, etc...
I've found the right balance (for me) to be at minimum a fairly fun modern car and definitely a fun classic, and that's it... Anymore is too much for me to juggle and truly enjoy. But life is too short to drive an appliance, and we might see anti-driving anti-non-smart-car legislation in the not so distant future, so I'd keep a fun car at all times just so that there's no regrets later... Would love to buy one in the USA, do a driving tour and ship it back to the UK Good FJ40's in Europe are too pricey for me and ones I can afford are another project I don't need but I am very taken by a Gen 1 Toyota 4Runner Been watching this one not sell for a year now, if its still not sold by August I'm going to view it https://www.autoscout24.com/offers/toyota-4-runner-modello-america-3-porte-85-kw-116-cv-gasoline-black-864ac7e3-49f7-1d40-e043-1250030ac98e?cldtidx=6

My buddy just lost his. We returned from a Canadian fly in trip to find that his under house garage had flooded with over 27" of water. His GLA 250 had already been totaled by ins. and towed. His '86 911 Turbo look was externally covered with silt. I opened the driver's door and saw silt halfway up the seat back. He was absolutely crestfallen. Hagerty visited yesterday to finalize total stuff and agreed value payment. He has sworn off toy cars for now.
Really sucks big time.

I sold my 993 four years ago. Don't miss it. My wife died last year and I gave her TT to my daughter. Don't miss it. We enjoyed these cars, but presently, I'm trying to keep things simple. Last edited by Rinty; 06-27-2018 at 01:15 PM.. |

That's a great looking hotrod. Lots of fun to be had there.
