Nice bike ride on Kauai this morning
I got out early this morning. Since the road out this way is still under repair, only residents are allow out this way. Wow it's so peaceful!
So I biked down to the end of the road wher Na Pali starts. The moon was going down and looking so nice over Na Pali ![]() Still plenty of clouds making the sky interesting. ![]() Seeing this boat anchored in Haena bay, brought back great memories of being there myself ![]() So I stopped in at tunnels beach too. Girl doing yoga on the empty beach ![]() I spent many Summer's anchored just to the right of wher I was standing for this pic. ![]() Got this pic of the pool that Ive working on to get cleaned up from the flood, it's getting pretty nice now. ![]() This is especially for Alex, as he wasn't able to get out here on his last visit. Well it's certainly good being back, Paul.
But just here for a couple of weeks to hang with the boys and look after the place, while Margaret is on the mainland visiting her folks. It's going to be hard to leave. You can see why. Plus the boys are really enjoying the time together too. Being here is doing me a lot of good! Cheers Richard |

Thanks Baz, I came accross this flower the other day, and thought of your thread.
It's a variety of passion fruit.

This one of the many landslide areas that is being repaired along the road from Hanalei.
Most of the work on this one is happening below the road deck to support the road when done. The total repairs along this 8 mi section of road is likely to take the rest of the year and possibly more to replace bridges that were also damaged. Also big damage along Hanalei bay near the river. The river fanned out and cut channels thru the road there and destroyed many newer waterfront homes. And wiped out the area around black pot park at the corner of the bay front and the river, long term recovery in store there too. I just didn't have it in me to take pictures of the carnage there.

Hey Cliff, not surprising that caught your eye. All of the repair areas are hard to reach as the driving access is in escorted convoys., no stopping along the way. Probably the best way to really get a closer look is from the water, as most of the work being done is below the road deck. I no longer have a boat here, so I zoomed in from across the bay for that pic.
They seem to be drilling under the road horizontally and putting long fasteners into the mountainside, then forming up walls on the seaward side with lots of rebar and heavy metal mesh in them and pouring those walls. At other locations they are working on runoff mitigation above the road. There are many areas where the seaward side of the road surface has slumped noticeably for considerable distances. And a number of old small bridges that they are working around too. It has continued to be rainy ever since the flood event, making it extra hard to get work done. Not nearly as large slides as on highway one south of Big Sur, but still challenging locations and conditions to work in. Aloha Bryan, thanks, nice cluster of Islands you've got here. Very nice being back for a bit. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 06-30-2018 at 08:54 PM.. |

I remember that place! I haven’t been back to Kauai since. I think I’ll plan a trip soon. Great pictures, be careful on the bike.

Awe Mr snbush, that's been years. You owe it to yourself to get on over here soon. It may have some recovery yet but the aloha is flowing strong.
