Some receivers do have pre out and are able to run external amp or back to an internal amp.

Yup, I have one of those here. I guess you would go that way to have surround features.

hey, I have 2 5 channel amps for sale!

What are the 5 channel amps are you selling, I do not need any at the moment but somebody else here could.

I did a quick look at some new AVR's and the available pre-out and amp-in appears to no longer be available, I guess with all the internal processing available they feel no longer req. Sort of unfortunate.

A neighbor added a speaker level to line converter to address this. I'm not a fan, I loaned him my Lexicon MC-1 (not the latest and greatest surround modes) but he likes it.

5 channel amps 2 Sherbourn 5/1500 with integrated rack ears.

also 1 mono VTL Manley Reference 100/200

For now keeping the SAE and dad's Fisher, Bryston, Meridian and Adcom stuff

I was looking at amazon for an outlet and clicked on a Pangea. Check out this Q&A. ha ha ha

Question:Is this outlet ‘tamper-proof’?

Answer:No, it is not. You must purchase a balanced audio grade outlet safety cover to prevent the impedance mismatched electrons emitted by other devices from sneaking into the unused port.

In addition, as many audiophiles have discovered to their dismay, the plug slots are perfectly sized to allow the genitalia of most serious audiophiles to slip in almost unnoticed causing a nasty surprise. see less

Actually built the system quite a while ago. Also picked up some components from the attic, garages sales, etc and built things up a bit.

I know, not really very pretty, but each component sounds really good (at least to me).

Symphonics and vocals are good across the board.

Thanks to the true audiophiles on the board for inspiring my effort.

I replaced my streamer with an Innuos Zenith. Sounds great plus the built in ripper is very useful. Their app (Sense) is great!

Out on meetings all day. Suggestions to follow.

First, how are the caps on the crossovers of your polks? I suggest you measure them

Agree on that. I use a shiit dac in my main system with an Adcom 555 ss amp or a Cary tube amp.

KC-if you're willing to deal with older, the 555 is a great deal for the $$'s. Its a Nelson Pass design, available used for 300-400 bucks, and is better than 200wpc or something crazy like 600 when bridged mono by flicking a switch. I've had carver gear since the 80's-first the m400, then a 1.0t and finally a couple different tfm amps. The Adcom sounds palpably better, more airy and transparent. Check out the old review by Stereophile online. I would caution that later versions of the same amp (555ii and others) no longer had Pass's engineering imput and aren't considered to sound as good.

and from personal experience (dad's system) some of the caps on the Adcoms are on the way out by now. Cheap and easy to replace.

New Class D amps are pretty clean sounding too! I like my SS and tubes but that new tech is interesting. Look at Orchard, amps made with Purifi modules etc.

Why do you think your Polks need gobs of power? What is their sensitivity and how low does this impedance curve go? Size of the speaker is irrelevant. Remember, most amps put out little more than 2 or 3 watts at normal listening levels with speakers above 87db/w.
