fire hydrant as man cave decoration ?

Went to a large garage sale yesterday scored a few good items . One item that caught my eye is an old red fire hydrant . It is an original piece and heavy must weigh 200 pounds I'm not kidding . The guy was asking 240.00 but I asked what's his best price he came down to 200.00 . I passed as I know nothing of the worth of these things . Came home and looked on fleabay and a couple of other sites and the prices seem to be 50.00 - 500.00 ! I want an old gas pump as my first choice but I could see a fire hydrant being a good piece to . I want to install on the outside of my man cave in between the two garage doors .

I know a guy that does chain saw wood carving , I told my wife if I get the hydrant I want a carving of a daschund lifting his leg like he's peeing on the hydrant , the wife didn't see the humor in that So what do you guys think , is 200.00 a decent price ?

I don't know if it's a decent price, I have never bought a fire hydrant, but I am old enough now to have learned to consider the opinion of any female that has jurisdiction over me. Actually, the word consider should be interpreted as to mean obey. The male sense of humor occupies a part of the brain that ends its development at about age 8, so it is not a reliable guide to behavior.

I once might have decorated my garage with vintage Avon calendars featuring women that, for some strange reason, never could master the art of keeping their clothes on. I am now more inclined to display, in the same spaces, fine art.

I do have one room in my house, that you might consider my man cave, where I may hang any art that is banned from the rest of the house. There is no nudity involved, said art is all comprised of oil paintings that were gathered from Asia 50 years ago and they are quite nice to look at, but they do not fit in with the female decorating scheme in the rest of the house.

I going to vote waste of money for what you want to accomplish; it is too small, low to the ground and something that we’re used to seeing outside everywhere.

It might be interesting as an inside man cave decoration though.

If you wish to combine a fire hydrant, a place to pee, and a dog all in one...

Atlanta airport reveals it spent nearly $4M on dog bathrooms | Fox News

I suspect that you could create one of these in your shop for less than the 550-some-odd thousand dollars that it cost for each one of these at the Atlanta airport.

Well I just looked on local CL and there is one listed for 40.00 I just sent him a text . In regards to height I would consider mounting the hydrant on a piece of pipe maybe a foot tall or so . In regards to dogs I have three weiner dogs but all are squaters .

CRAP ! Just got a return text the guy sold it this morning . Oh well it wasn't meant to be .

What about trying to find an old traffic light or ped crossing light for your decoration?

When someone runs over one of our hydrants after hours, I have to send a service worker & his supervisor to help him load it pronto before it's snatched up by thieves. Make sure it's retired & not stolen.

Yeah, since the previous thread about the gas pump, I've been thinking traffic light.

There was a time when ornate gas streetlights were common. Some are really nice vintage looking. If you found a free standing one that you like you could electrify it, put in the spot, and gain outside lighting to boot.

Cheers Richard

I think a fire hydrant was one of my suggestions given that the gas pump was spendy. On that same theme you could hang a fire hose there. Might not be a good idea though if someone ever took it as real. I just happen to have a new 1.5" FH in the box w/o a nozzle. Yours if you get a hydrant and want a hose.
