$8 in Wood

So I bought an $8 piece of wood from the hardware store....

I built two bird-houses with the boys, that they painted with their mom, and a coat rack for the hallway.

I love summer.

"I built two bird-houses with the boys"
Priceless!

You made a memory on those 2 young men that they will carry all their lives. Good job.

Your painting and carpentry skills suck.

Kidding. Nice job, Legion. Your boys are lucky.

Won’t they work better on a tree and a wall?

JK! Good job dad!

I still remember building a bird house with my dad when I was maybe 7 or 8. He still has that bird house in his garage. It hung in the tree in front of the house for 20+ years. It's barely hanging together but he refuses to get rid of it. Memories like that last a lifetime.

$8 in wood? What about your overhead in nails? small diameter round dowels? Paint? Brushes? Workspace? Work permits? Inspections? Tax returns-small personal business vs. class c corporation? Legal disclaimers? Waste disposal of hazardous materials?

These kids need to learn whats REALLY involved!

Just kidding- cool project!

Those must be for really small birds, or the tiny house movement has gotten out of hand.

Did you justify spending $75 for a circular saw, $50 for a drill, $40 for a sander for those projects?
If not, you're slacking.

To be fair, I already had all of those things, spent much more on them, and I also used a bench sander, a finishing sander, and a router.

I enjoy projects with the kids as well.

The 8 year old boy had to make a project for school so he looked up/designed a locking mechanism for the garden gate (he loves watching "Alone in the Wilderness") and he helped me build a replacement kitchen cabinet drawer that broke.

He also loves to shovel stuff.

Thanks for teaching skills to your kids. Many just grow up thinking if they ever need to saw and nail, they can find an APP to do it for them.......

Three weekends ago I had them sitting on the step in the garage while I changed the front pads and rotors on the wife's minivan. They were asking questions the whole time.

next teach them how to change suspension components , as these will be the only items safe for non-trained people to work on in the coming age of electric cars. Regular mechanics will either have to retrian or get another job entirely . Car owners will have to get their cars maintained by the Stealers, as no small garage will be able to afford the test equipment . As it is, Hyundai garages in the UK have to refer to Hyundai Technical in the UK to unravel the mysteries of the very complex software running the Ioniq range of hybrid,. Plug- in hybrid, and Electric cars.
