VINWiki on utube

First let me just say that YouTube is a life suck; you go thereto look up something or learn about something and you end up going down the rabbit hole watching videos, and forgetting what you originally went there for.

That being said, I watched a few video from VINWiki and found them very entertaining, just car guys talking about car stories.

Check it out if you get a chance, but try not to be caught in the vortex.

I was bummed to find you have to pay to watch Portlandia on youtube. (My wife lived is from Portland and hates the show but I think it is hilarious)

The ed guy is a good storyteller, and a shrewd negotiator of course

YouTube is definitely a rabbit hole, but a guilty pleasure of mine. There's a lot of good content out there just waiting to be found. If you like machining/metal work, the videos of This Old Tony are pure art (and funny too).

The VIN Wiki series is pretty good, and I agree that Ed tells a good story. There was a good one the costs of owning a McClaren F1 that were eye opening - - serious money. Also, Randy Pobst tells some cool stories too. They get it right by keeping their videos under 10 mins, which is the extent of my attention span these days.

Like all things digital these days, it does creep me out a bit, though. YouTube actively tracks what you watch and will make suggestions they think you'll like. While it's generally on topic, it inevitably strays into either PARF territory, with all sorts of Fake News channels, or click-bait channels with girls in short, tight dresses. Must.. Not... Click... or the quality of your feeds get destroyed.

I watch VINWiki quite a bit too, they found a good niche with me. Videos are not too long, good story tellers, especially the owner Ed, and it's fun content usually. I also saw the cost to own a McClaren, I like that the owner was so honest. Most people only worry about costs to own if something breaks, not routine maintenance of a super car which is nothing like a Camry.

Leno touched on the ridiculousness of the F1 fuel cell needing to be replaced every 5 years, whether you drive 1 mile or 10,000.
