New Computer
The CPU fan went out on my laptop. I ordered a replacement and set about replacing it. Well, due to some drop damage (not my fault, but that's another story), the case disintegrated as I got it apart. It was obvious that Humpty Dumpty wasn't going back together again.
I ordered a new laptop but I felt like it would be a waste to just toss the old components. I found that I could get an ITX motherboard that could use the old laptop's processor and memory. So I'm going to end up cobbling together a new desktop out of some salvaged parts, a motherboard I got off of eBay, and a new case to house it all. These are the specs: 2nd Gen i7 processor 8 gb ddr3 ram 1 tb hard drive ATI Radeon 6870 Graphics card So, a decent little build, but I don't really have a use for another computer. Any ideas?

You could use it for a security system, that storage would be good.

Flying or racing simulator.
Arcade emulator. Connect to a TV, cut the cord and stream TV.

Must be something going around. Fan on my laptop made some noise and locked up last week. After watching a how to on youtube I decided it was not worth the trouble. Got a refurbed Dell off ebay. 240 gig SSD, I7 processor , 8 gigs of RAM amd Windows 7. I almost never use Windows and did not want to deal with Windows 10 so my choices were limited. |

Oh, for what it's worth my dell laptop fan stopped also. Software problem, not hardware. Went into diagnostics on boot up, and I could turn it on and off manually. As I recall reflashing the bios fixed it.

In my case, I could hear the bearing grinding for weeks before the fan finally gave way. It wasn't a surprise when it happened.

Then there is craigslist. Have a neighbor that pisses you off? Post their crap on craigslist for free. Coordinate for when they're not home using google voice tied to a burner phone plus burner email address. Only connect to public WiFi. Good times great fun. |
