Thanks.

I can say without equivocation that parents presenting a united, agreed upon in advance position to their children is essential across the spectrum.

There was zippy playing mom versus dad. I will also say that my wife and I were willing to listen and if either my son or daughter had their schit together enough to change our minds on a rule or issue, we did.

We were benevolent rulers

Lastly, they will make mistakes; the only zero tolerance rule we had was lying about those mistakes or lying, frankly, in general. Being accountable is a gift that must be learned.

So much more. Remember, take pictures, take time for them, take them places and make them play a varsity sport in HS, an equivalent effort or play an instrument.

Thanks again - hot day, and I've rambled on!

This is very similar to what I told Hugh and his charming bride.

It is not by accident that people like Paul have kids like they do.

We did the exact same thing. and, if Mom or Dad saids something the other disagreed with, the other had to sign on to that program. We'd course correct later as necessary (say, if Dad decreed something stupid).

Amen. They will fail. Failure, a biological imperative, builds strength like nothing else. I told my kids if they didn't fail at things, they weren't aiming high enough. Worked out pretty well.

As a pre-condition to getting their licenses, my kids had to complete 3 PCA skills days. To get their own cars, three PCA track events. My daughter loved it and went on to do 70 events her first three years. My son, who is the best driver of all of us, did his three PCA events and that was enough.
