Yep, and no cell phone video as proof (or evidence) either.

I vividly remember riding the school bus in the 11th grade and watching a full size pickup run a red light, and smash into the side of the bus right under where I was sitting. The pickup was smashed and totaled, the bus was dented a little. Not one cop or fireman asked if I needed a trip to the hospital, no one was "treated at the scene" except the pickup driver. No lawsuits, no big deal. It was just a crash. Just bad driving.

And that was in the 1970s, not the 50s.

Now the parents hire lawyers and figure it is free money to file a lawsuit for pain and suffering.

You'll note that the 'driver' was working indirectly for the school system via contractor. This is more the norm as it reduces labor cost and mostly defers liability to the contractor..........shocking I know....

It always amazes me that school buses are not required to provide seat belts.

It's a special kind stupid for the driver to think that this was OK to do.

Ha! I was just telling my son a story about when I was in high school a friend would always bug the bus driver to let him drive. One day she got tired of him asking and let him drop off everyone on the way home. This was back in 1990. He didn’t even have his license yet. Better times.

Hail to the bus driver,
bus driver, bus driver,
Hail to the bus driver,
bus driver-man
He screams and he cusses,
He rams other busses.
Hail to the bus driver,
bus driver-man.

Buses can be spec'd for seat belts, but rarely are. Most have the front 3-4 row seat equipped with both belts and ability to carry child seats. But the rear seat back bolsters are high enough and designed for impact to protect the persons behind them.

From experience - school buses are hands down the cheapest vehicle made. Because they are bought by accounts with taxpayer money. If they were free - everyone would still complain.....
