Subaru or Mitsubishi?

We are considering a new Forrester for my wife in a few months. The Mitsubishi Outlander seems to give more value for money.

Apart from the duramax engine in my one ton, I have never owned a Mitsubishi product before.

Are they any good? Anyone have any experience with Mitsubishi vehicles?

A good friend had an evo a few years ago that he crashed at the track when it was 4 months old...

well ok, my wife got a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse and drove it completely trouble free for five years then we sold it and she bought a 2005 T Bird that she drove trouble free for five years, we sold it and she bought a 2010 Golf that she drove trouble free for five years, we sold it, she bought a 2015 Diesel Golf we drove trouble free until the company bought it back. If we had bought a Subaru I would expect the same thing. Just saying I think most cars are good if you take care of them

Yup. They are barely hanging on and their products are mediocre at best.

Not a fan of any of the current Subaru styling, and Mitsubishi put the nail in their own coffin when they discontinued their last good car (EVO)

Older Forester, and even older AWD Eclipse here.

We bought a 2015 Legacy 3.6R in arrest me red new off the lot, it's got a flat 6, leather and so on....
Great fun on curvy mountain or long straight roads, passing is smooth and easy.
20K on it now and we are very pleased!

In June, we purchased a 2018 Subaru Outback for my wife. We just took our first 'real' road trip and both of our 'likes' for this vehicle improved from an "infatuation" to "love" (remember their slogan, "Love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru."). The trip from Alabama to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan was great... all 2,200 miles! The ride is nice but a little firm. Subaru oozes in safety features. The gas mileage was incredible - at 55 mph, we averages 38.8 mpg - at 65 mph, we realized 36.0 mpg. I think if I had to get a another car today that I would immediately take a look at another Subaru.

I inquired about the dreaded head gasket problem that plagued some of the Subaru engines (that I first read about here on Pelican) and, according the the salesperson, there is a bulletin from Subaru that covers this failure for 10 years after purchase - I have not verified this.

I recently rented an Outlander and drove all around Colorado in it.

It was the best average car I've driven in a while

We bought a 2016 Crosstrek and love it. never owned a Mitusu, but my sister had a Diamante and it was a piece of crap that rode and handled like a 1960's Buick.

Subaru. I love my '18 Impreza Sport. Great car for the money and better resale than the Mitsubishi.

wife had a Mitsubishi in the early 90's. little compact car that I think shared many parts with dodge colt or something like that? I liked it. it didn't make it past about 120k tho. the old starion ESI was a cool looking car.

since then however I don't think there is a car company on the planet that has shown less ability to design a nice looking vehicle. it is a suspicion of mine that they actually go out of their way to design the ugliest vehicles possible.

No experience with Mistu... Subaru is rock solid and safety is top notch. I have heard good things about their eyesight system. My brother drove an Impreza down in Miami with it and spoke very highly of it when compared to the system in his Acura.

I have owned two Subaru's. They are very nice cars, but the scheduled maintenance can be expensive. The Mitsubishi I would run away from. Their reliability and build quality are in the toilet. I have looked at and driven them twice in the past 2 years, and opted for a Nissan Rogue and a 2018 VW Tiguan as better alternatives

You should be able to get a good deal on the Mits and if you plan to keep it 'forever' you dont worry much about resale. Pretty good chance they will close up shop in the US or at least be a very minor player within 5-10 yrs.
