Ikea? Hate that place

Had a hot lunch date there today. Just came back from Ikea with my wife with a truck load of crap purchased for our rental. I can't seem to get out of that place and keep going in circles. They want to keep you there to spend more money. Its not a place you get in, buy items needed, then leave. Good thing is, the Swedish meatballs is pretty good.

I don’t mind it. The app is a godsend, tells you what bin everything is in, and how many are in stock.

Absolutely. Figure out what you want, go in the exit and straight to the warehouse full of stuff most of the time. Occasionally, we have to wander around to look at things, but neither of us like that. Also, there are usually shortcuts in the rat maze to get you out faster.

I haven't ever had the food. I'm curious about the meatballs, but what kills me is the smell of the cinnamon rolls. I've got a major sweet tooth, actually all of them.

I don't get the place, in Denver across the lane from Ikea is Ethan Allen, no assembly and they deliver, the stuff lasts for generations. We had one Ikea thing and it was particle board and fell apart, I just don't get the allure, is it the shopping experience?

You were at the Burbank Ikea, the largest in the World! Movie/TV set dressing thrives off of Ikea.

I love the Swedish meatballs there. Great "people watching" too.

Yep, that mad house its only 15 from our house. The crowd wasn't too bad, but the parking lot is a mess. Seriously, the largest? I thought my wife was talking out of her azz again. I tried a box of their frozen Swedish meatballs long ago. It was nothing like eating the ones there. Maybe I am a horrible at heating up food

Me (in heavy Russian ascent): I think I am going to buy a little GAZ so I can drive my family to see my relatives in the village 20 kilometer away instead of walking in Siberia winter.

Scott: WTF dude, buy the Benz G class across the river. There's one in the show room floor now. Why would you have to walk 10k to the GAZ and pick up that tin can POS with bicycle tires yourself while the Benz people will delivery it to your front door with a full tank of gas.

Apple and oranges. Big difference between Ethan Allen and IKEA. Its for my rental, closets, more closets and bath room vanities.

Hey man, its like you guys talking about American muscle cars

I bet IKEA must be big over there? There used to be a store name Stork from Sweden that sold knock down furniture similar to IKEA. Are there more similar stores there?

I had an hour or so to kill while waiting to pick someone up from the airport in Orlando, so I wandered into the Ikea to kill time. I couldn't figure out if I was in an amusement park fun house or a home furnishings store. Seems like a good place to shop for people with A.D.D.

The last time we went I said never again. Of course it was on a Saturday which is the worst day to go. It was a bunch of parents shopping but they all told the kids that this was a big playground so go play and don't bother us.
It was nutz!

Are you talking about STOR? (with the "/" across the O.) That was an American business out of the City of Industry that had several stores in Industry, Tustin, Torrance, and were sued by Ikea shortly after they opened. Suit settled and Ikea acquired them in 1992. I went to STOR several times in the late 80's and when Ikea arrived, readily noticed the similarity.

I have been in an Ethan Allen store and would consider going there again.
Can't say the same about that other place.

FYI, some of the stuff is crap made out of particle board, some is solid plank thats made much better. I doubt that much of it would last generations, but sometimes you don't want stuff that costs $250 and will last 100 years. Sometimes you want somehting that costs $15 and will last 3-5 years.
