My First Time

Next month I will have had this Jeep for five years, 99 Cherokee two door, it's been so reliable I don't even carry tools or battery cables anymore. Yesterday I started it up in the morning, cold, started right up, drove it out to Fallbrook to the VetArt place. Was only there a bit and started up for home, as I passed the Post office I saw no cars so thought I would stop there and get some stamps. Walked in and out, my Jeep wouldn't even click.
I called AAA and they said about 30 and they would be there. I left the hood up so they would find me.
Now, the amazing part, probably ten people walked over in that time and asked if I needed their battery cables of if they could help while I was waiting for AAA. They must put something in the water out there in Fallbrook, some nice people living out there.

My wife called me from the University where she is employed... Her 2000 Beetle (2nd car she has, because she just wanted one.. her Accord is more reliable) wouldn't crank over. I drove over there to jump it, but the battery was good. She was parked by the athletics building, and a young football player walking through the parking lot, was kind enough to push it so I could bump start it for her. So refreshing to see there are still nice people on the planet.

My brother drives a 1954 bug as a daily driver. One day when we went to work it was raining and he left his light on. Obviously the battery was dead. He saw a couple of 20 something coworkers walking to their cars nearby. My brother asked them to push his car and they laughed and said they are not pushing him home. He explained he just need them to get the car moving and they pushed. They were amazed when it started, and he drove home. The coworkers had never seen that before and had no idea it was possible.

Last week, my F-150 would not start. Cranks over, will not start. So I have it flatbedded to my shop. With the truck out of the way, I figure I will take my Mustang for a spin. SAME THING. Damn thing cranks, won't start. Not feeling much Ford love at the moment.

(Not the PATS security system with either one. I have to wonder if I have rodents eating the wiring....)

So, I gotta ask......How long really was the AAA wait?.........From my experience and talking to friends, it can range from 2 hours to: "We not coming, too busy or too far out of town".....About ready to cancel my 20+ year membership.........

The title of the thread didn’t speak Jeep to me. Never mind.

Maybe we need another “The first time” thread. Bet it will be good.
