lug nut bolts for my Cayman
Put on new tires and the guys at the shop lost one of my lug bolt to the Cayman. I am having a hard time locating one locally, new or used. Off to the net I go only to found upon delivery that the new one's ball seat are much smaller. I can't seem to find any over the net (I suck at searching). Dealer? No need for titanium, shiny polish alum, or stainless lug bolts. I also discovered that the original bolt's bite is only 5 to 6 threads or just under 1/2" and there are wheel spacer behind the wheels. Factory 19" wheels, its an S. Where do you guy get your?
I am not sure where or how its measured? I assume the length is measured from the end of the bolt to the top of the washer just right under where the hex head starts? I think I am looking for 55mm length, 14x1.5mm lug bolt? Last edited by look 171; 09-10-2018 at 05:07 PM.. |

I think I bought 4 from PP when I first got my Cayman. Replaced the locks. Hate those things.

A 1/2” engagement? That doesn’t seem like a lot, but then again, isn’t the rule the width of the bolt?
Either way, I’d like to have more. Is the spacer a factory item? |

There are plenty of sources for good aftermarket Porsche bolts with the proper sized spherical washers and in all different lengths. Like Pelican or ECS

'Proper' engagement is 1.5x diameter as a rule of thumb. I suspect a lug bolt has such a big safety factor that 1.0x is fine, but I would prefer the 1.5 rule be applied.
M14 should have 21mm of engagement if possible, at 1/2" you would be under the1.0 rule. Thread length is almost always from the bottom of the head, i.e., the real thread part.

Just don't go too deep. Not sure about the Cayman, but some cars have through holes that can actually hit the hub or knuckle behind. Typically wheel spacers more than 5 mm will require longer lug bolts.

Remove the wheel spacers? If you have factory wheels I think Porsche engineering probably has the wheelbase spacing about right.

They could be stock. I've had several Porsches that were factory optioned with 5 mm spacers.
