Anybody have an outdoor shower ?
One of my favorite things about going to the beach, is my buddy's outdoor shower . Just something about it, feels good.
I want to make one for myself here at home. Will be great fun in December ![]() I bet, if I had one, I would use it 6 months out of the year, at least when it was warm enough.

In the midwest we always call the outdoor shower "playing in the lawn sprinkler."

One place I rented in Hawaii had only an outside shower.
At a couple of other places I build a sauna and they had out door showers to cool down in. Especially nice at night with stars out. Cheers Richard |

They are pretty simple to build. We put in a temporary one for a client some time ago because they were try save for a pool house. It worked out so well that they decided to not build the pool house and built a larger out door shower instead. Saving was something like 40k. It was a bunch of large panels with an open top and a couple benches for undressing and one inside inside the shower.

Are you thinking garden hose wire tied to a tree, or teak panels, grate and hot/cold water? Adding one next to the pool would be nice but the house is 15' away. I know I couldnt deal with cold water showers.

I have one, Fred. Pretty mandatory if you live on the barrier island.
Mine is located on the south side of the house inside a fenced in courtyard accessible through either the inside master bedroom patio door or from the outside through the gate in my fencing. The shower area is partially enclosed as well with a sitting area and decking to stand on. All p/t wood. Not a great pic but you can see how private it is - that Allamanda vine is usually cut back further but sometimes I just let her ramble to enjoy the blooms.....

Nothing like cold well water. 55 degrees and crisp.

Yep we have one. It's the greatest when you get off the beach. Wash the sand off and cool the sun burn. Even better with a cold beer at the ready.

I showered outside back when I worked in the mountains. They were three sided with a wood floor - very simple. A 15 gallon grease drum with a valve and shower head held the water. You kept the drum half full of ambient temp water and boiled a big bucket on the stove which you carried up a ladder in the back and dumped it in. You got nice warm water, and the showers were heavenly. Here's one from '74. You can see the cabin roof at the lower left by the shower.

We have one just off our bedroom on a deck. Pretty simple deal. Tied into BR plumbing, 6x8 cedar enclosure w/ a bench. I use it 80% of the time. 60 degrees use warm water, 85 + use cool water. No steamy room, more refreshing & I feel cleaner.

A friend of mine incorporated an outdoor shower into his home remodel. He works outside/tree stump removal, so it is a practical way to keep grime out of the house. He says he loves it.
True story- in remodeling/ additions, design quirks can get worked into even the best of plans, sometimes oversights, sometimes necessary compromises. In his case, the outdoor shower area is adjacent to the kitchen window over the sink, so if you show up and are hanging out with people in the kitchen, and help put dishes in the sink, and he gets home from work, he will wave to you with a big grin as he showers off all his dirt in all his odonic glory. He just grins and laughs "Do the right thing, beer me..." "Put on some damn clothes" I answer, turning to his wife in the kitchen.. "God Laurie, you just cant UNSEE the sh#$!- do something about him!" ![]() I stay away from that area of the kitchen now. If she showered out there- different story. |

I have one at our cottage that I built. Pics follow.
It's about 5' x 5' and uses hoses to hook up to hot and cold faucets plumbed from the cottage. We are on sand so drainage is not an issue. I have six grandsons between 16 and 21 and they are required to use this rather than any of the showers inside. It works really well. PM me if you want my plans and BOM.

In Denmark we would run naked into the Kattegat sea every morning, breaking the ice off as we ran in. We'd splash around a little, then run 100 yards back to the summer house with the outdoor shower. It really sucked if we forgot to turn the shower on beforehand so hot water came out immediately. There was no enclosure around the shower, just a bunch of naked middle-aged people competing for the stream of water out of the shower head. Kind of disgusting, actually.
