I ended up buying a new Titan Platinum Reserve 4x4 crew cab. Awesome truck. I was able to get past the bulky front end styling because they removed some chrome trim for this year.

I will most likely have my truck at least 10 years. I am still driving my old Sierra with 250K because I want to use it up, and because it is worth more to me than it is worth on the open market. In my truck searches, I have found that good 4WD trucks don't really show up for less than 15K,unless you can afford to wait, look at a lot of trucks, and watch the ads like a hawk.

There is no way I will ever buy another new truck and pay full price. FWIW, a 1500 will do 99.95% of anything I will ever need a truck for including towing. The 14 and up 5.3 makes 380HP and the pre 14 makes 335 with about 380 foot pounds.

Trucks are the new yuppie thing, and they make manufacturers a lot of profit. Everybody learned from Porsche profit margins. I'm not paying some executive's bonus just because I need a truck. I would have bought the Tundra all day long at the price my buddy paid, and it is a superior truck.

Wow. That's a lot of truck.
And I agree, the 2018s and 19s look much better than my 17.

WILCO - d@mn, I do love this truck. The interior is about the nicest of any vehicle I've owned. Goes against my usual truck ethos, but now the wife doesn't complain about riding in it:

Nice truck! But you should have gone with the F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost!

I'm not yet at the place where I can have truck without a true V8 rumble, although the Raptor did tempt me...maybe next time...

That is a beautiful truck. There just doesn't seem to be much love for Nissans like there is for the Tundras. A few guys i work with swear by Nissans.

I've been in a pick up since the mid 80's.My current ride is an '06 Taco that is ready to turn over 200K. It's a half ton 4x4 and I've hauled all manner of loads. Once carried the R1100S to Arkansas for work to be done and the Duc often hitches a ride in the back.

I thought about replacing it when I retired but like the OP I nearly had a cardiac event when I saw the prices, even on used Tacos. So I'm maintaining it as best I can.

I bought my '03 F350, PSD, 4WD, extended cab truck in '05 to use when I was working on building my house. I can keep the truck to use, but really don't need something that heavy duty and didn't during the construction, since I never pulled or hauled any loads I couldn't have done with a decent half ton truck. But I like the truck - however it's time for a change. So I just ordered a T350 Transit, XLT, 3.5L (310 hp./400 ft.lb.) window van not too long ago. I had a window van a long time ago that I loved. I can use this van to tow and haul anything I want. The only thing is the height of a payload is somewhat limited. In that case I can use my 16' trailer. Part of the reason I went that route is because of the prices of trucks now days. I feel I got everything I wanted (I sort of ordered whatever I felt like) for a much lower price than a new truck.

Those who have had Titans know the deal. This is my fourth Titan, and every one of them has been great. I think Nissan generally flies under the radar for a lot of folks. That's on Nissan; they don't market the Titan hardly at all.

This new generation of Titans should be even better at doing truck stuff based on the beefier diff and generally upgraded tech.

I don't disagree that new truck prices are crazy. The tech in new trucks is likewise crazy.

I tow a big horse trailer with living quarters a few times a year. While my older f350 diesel (04, and yes the 6.0 has been bulletproofed) is overkill the rest of the time, when I need it I need it. Its definitely not "town friendly" though, impossible to park and the turning circle of the Queen Mary.
I really like the Titan Cummins, but its a) expensive and b) discontinued after this year. Suspect that they might be less expensive than late model domestics on the used market but haven't done the research as I'm only into my truck for 12k and its not going anywhere.

That appeared to be a problematic engine, and an underwhelming one in terms of performance. Not sure what Nissan was thinking adopting it, when the reliable six cylinder Cummins engine has been going strong for so long.

Although, I wouldn't buy one of the modern diesels for a regular driver unless that driving involved towing on the highway most days. Folks are having a fit with active regen/DPF issues, real world mileage etc. in draconian emissions states when using these trucks as a regular household driver. I looked at them hard but went with a gas engine truck.

A70swt- agreed. DEF and emission have pretty much put the modern diesel out off my radar for those reasons, although it seems that once out of warranty the bulk get those things deleted at great cost initially to save some heartache long term.

The DEF modern diesel issue is probably why Ford is building a new 7.3L gasser for its big pickups and commercial line. Having owned four Ford diesels I switched to an F150 so as to not pay the huge mark up on the Diesel engine and the diesel specific issues in CA. My buddy works on Tugs in LA Harbor and they have nothing but problems with their "CA compliant" diesels, no matter what manufacturer.

Yeah, I think the only way to own one today is to be in a state without intense emissions laws, and gut the add-on systems. I hear horror stories about running and reliability issues guys are having now.

Between this, the supposed rise of EVs (still <2% of the market!) and the fallout from the VW scandal, the days of the diesel may be numbered.

That is too bad. My old BMW 335d had >400 ft-lb of torque. Pulled off the line like you wouldn't believe.

Still driving my 2014 F150 2WD Screw with the 5.0. 120k on the clock and another 100k to go. It’s been a good truck. Only problem was a Service Advance Trac early in its life and a water pump at 100k.

Looked at the Dodge ecodiesel but couldn’t find anything more than a work truck model.

My last truck was a 2001 F150 2 WD with the 5.4 with 225k on the clock when I traded it in on the 14.

185K on my 2012 F150 Supercrew 4x4 5.0. Changed the water pump last month, never changed the trans filter, changed the fluid once. towing capacity is 13000, more than I need. My trailer is only 7500. The 5.0 is awesome. When I changed the water pump I replaced all of the hoses.
