Moving to Loveland, Colorado for a few years....any insights

Well, just working through the details but looks like in the next week or two I will be moving to Loveland...been there once for interviews, seems like a great town.

Anyone live there or have any insight as to things such as where to live (we will rent an apartment/condo) or things to watch out for?

Certainly happy to leave Canada behind me for a while, I have been in the US for business numerous times, but this is the first "live in" job I have had there...

Thanks in advance!

Dennis

I live between Fort Collins and Loveland and I am a native to the area. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. It's a great area and Loveland is revitalizing it's already up and coming downtown, as well as all the growth out towards I-25.

Loveland is great! Also ask BSiple, He's up there somewhere.

Negative comments about ridiculous congestion and expanding megaopolis withheld!

Like Gogar says, I’m in the area and would be more than willing to talk. I moved to Fort Collins in 2001.

Shoot me a pm.

I have some words of warning. Don't take two Qualudes at a party in Loveland then drive the 25 toward Denver at 3:00am on New Years Eve! The 25 makes 67 Dodge vans roll-over in the snow! That's what happened to me in Loveland in 1979. Something is wrong with that highway.

My in-laws are in Loveland.

Beautiful area and a nice town. I'm generously withholding negative comments about ridiculous congestion and expanding megaopolis however. You might have to snoop around to find the details on that...

(went to college in Golden and would still be in the front range if I could find the right job there)

I used to have to go to Loveland on occasion to visit a company there that makes military shipping containers. I loved the area. Quite a bit different than the Alabama/Tennessee, needless to say.

The guys at this company kept a .22 rifle in their engineering offices to shoot prairie dogs out the back door.

It was growing at the time (this was probably 2002 or 2003). I can only imagine what it looks like now.

"The" 25? Even if you didn't publish your location, this gave it away. It's I-25, thanks.

That out of the way, a single Rorer can produce interesting vehicular results, so I'm certain things can get very interesting with two.

I lived in Loveland 20 years ago. It was a beautiful, small Colorado town. Farm fields, laid back. You would pass 120th going north on I-25 from Denver and it would turn dark all the way past Berthoud and then into Loveland. Now it's another example of the Californication and destruction of Colorado.... But, it is what it is... Different times back then.

Yup. Most of my wife's family were Hewlett Packard alumni or farmers. Both gone...

If you're moving to the area - the further west the fewer monster thunderstorms and hail. Definitely don't go east of I-25...

I can remember being in Loveland back in '92. Stopped on my way home to Calif while on a trip from KC Mo. I recall driving around looking at all the condo's/townhouses that were going up at the time and thinking, why the hell are they building them so damn close to each other when there's all this land around not being used.
I guess that was the start of it.

Yup. I am a native of Fort Collins. The Front Range is basically one city now from Wellington to Castle Rock. Monument hill prevents it from being Wellington to Pueblo but they'll probably find a way soon to build over that as well. The growth has been great for my business and I guess it's bound to be like that anywhere that is nice to live nowdays. Cost is high, the average track home is over $400K around here now, but I guess that depends where you are comparing it to. Still a great place to live compared to many other areas in the country, but it's definitely far from being the "best kept secret in the US" that it was for many decades.

One of them would be a cool place to live, the track home.

Congratulations, Dennis. While not needed, I wish you all success in your new endeavor.

I spent a winter in Lakewood in 1976 as a common laborer. I don't think much has changed.

Once you get thru the front range heading west, there are vast areas of diverse open country to explore and enjoy. Great uncrowded driving roads abound.

I've done a number of extended RV trips around Colo. Over the last few summers, with 911 in tow to explore. Spent little time on the east side of the front range.

You'll have to opportunities for great get aways once you are settled in.

Great sand dunes Nat. park

Overlooking the Gunnison from the north side, great empty roads there.

Out wandering south of Royal Gorge.

Cool valley drive south of Carbondale.

Lots to see!

Cheers Richard
