Goat!

I got some goat meat. Made perfect sense to hit the Indian grocery store to gather spices and talk to the ladies there for some intel.

They sent me home with $18 worth of spices, some of which I had no clue about.

Why doesn’t goat meat have better traction in this country? It’s leaner and apparently has less cholesterol. The animals eat anything so they have to be easier to raise. It needs better public relations?

I don’t see it often in restaurants for whatever reason. A really great local bar has an awesome goat burger. So to answer your question-dunno.

I think that, by and large, Americans are a fairly squeamish bunch. If you compare us to most other countries, we are the definition of picky eaters.

We have a friend who makes a Jamaican style curried goat stew that he puts over rice. OMG it's good. A local Indian restaurant also serves a goat curry dish. I order it every time I eat there.

Because most people who have goats have them as pets.

I'll bet these guys are tender!

I've had goat in Indian and Jamaican food. It's OK. I somehow usually end up getting what seems like the knees or joints or something, so there's usually a ton of bone and hardly any meat. For that reason, I don't order goat.

I suspect we don't eat goat because one goat doesn't yield that much meat compared to a cow or pig.

If I had a reliable source for goat meat, I would eat it more than beef and chicken together. It's perfect for curry's, in chili, in tacos, on it's own as a slab of flesh, etc. To me it's better than cow and more flavorful than yard bird. But take that as you will from someone that can't stand the sight, smell or taste of a steak. Grosses me out.

MMmmmmm..... Mose's BBQ ... Pork, Chicken, Goat, Fries, Fried Okra, or baked sweet 'tater. Some of the best old black dude bbq you could've gotten... and Sonny Tillman had his place going just a few miles down the road.

Crap. Now I'm hungry.

Sorry for the crappy image. It was quickly approaching “shovel into my face” time.

Wow! My first Indian Curry. Spicy! I don’t know what mystery powder added the fire. Haha.

My cousins used to have big get togethers a couple times every summer and grill a goats and cook a big pot of soup. They were great cooks and the goat was great. I think they boiled it before putting on the grill. Anyway it was lean and tender. I really miss that since the cousins got old passed.

I like speed-goats, aka pronghorn antelope. This year we will have us some bucks off the WY range, the males tend to be a bit more on the "goat" flavor side. Share the recipes! I am sure the Indian curries help cover things up a bit!

Ate some goat as a kid. On our small farm, we raised our own beef, pork, sheep, goat, chicken and rabbit meat...........Recall butchering and eating a lot of rabbit......Don't hear of many rabbit eaters either........

No spices. Often fried in lard. Well done. My mother's cooking timer was the smoke alarm..........

Friends father raised goats. Sold most of his product to the folks that make pepperoni for Pizza Hut. More goat out there then you would think....
