Pursuing the thread on astrology, what about feng shui?

Anyone ever delve into that? I bought a book a few years ago but it didn't take with me. At the time it was all the rage in Los Angeles especially amongst the hipsters.

Funny you mention that. Sometime ago, (I am sure they still do), UCLA offered a class on that so my thinking was taking the class trying to keep up with the latest and the greatest. But the traffic going to UCLA would kick my ass even though I am on that side of town often. I never did, but I worked for this interior designer for a few years and she sells that siht to their high dollar clients and make some foolish and funky design choices. She would put a round window in the middle of no where for the fortune to come in and there are no other round window in the house. Crazy stuff like that. Funky, maybe that's why I am so poor

Total BS. Just like the phrases, It was meant to be and everything happens for a reason. The reason is either human decision making or the forces of nature.

Yep, just more silly Hocus Pocus. Astrology and feng shui is dumber than extraterrestrial abduction and has the same amount of evidence and logic involved.

But hey it only hurts your bank account and it is your money so if it feels good, go for it. Maybe buy some crystals or try some pyramid power!

A lady gave me a book on it, I took it out of curiosity... been sitting untouched for a loooong time, too many other books to read.

One time I was having lunch at the USC food court with a friend/co-worker and we picked up one of the new age papers they had laying around to get a chuckle out of the ads. Then it dawned on me my friend had a PhD so I jokingly suggested we go to the market, buy a box of mango's and run and ad "Dr. Kim's positive vibration mango's, cures everything, blah, blah, blah..." Probably be rich right now if we went or it.

The decluttering part of Feng Shui makes a lot of sense to me. As far as the practice of it, I suppose that if you think about the things you want in your life as you keep your home neat and tidy, your life is bound to improve.
I would never want to underestimate the power of positive thinking, or ignore the harm dwelling on the negative can do to one's opportunities. Even if nothing comes of optimism, You weren't completely miserable the entire time you were waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The great thing about Feng Shui is that if nothing else improves, you still have a nice home, and that is quality of life. But I believe that the mind works overtime on the things you focus on, even if you aren't consciously thinking about them every waking moment. Getting your home all shuied up is telling your mind you are ready, willing and able. Doing everything for everyone else and nothing for yourself leads to lower self esteem. Practicing Feng Shui addresses that issue.

''A man's home is his castle'' is a form of Feng Shui.

Some of it is kooky but a lot of it makes sense. I have a couple of books on it, just don't ask me if I incorporate it into my cluttered home.

Quite a bit more legit than astrology, IMO, though a knowledge of astrology can lead to many long conversations w dumb but very pretty women.

Keep in mind, this is not based on 200-300 years of history. The Chinese were eating off china when the British royalty was celebrating a coronation eating off stale rounds of bread.

Most of it can be traced to repetitive events, kinda like Darwin's theory of evolution.
Follow this example, not sure if I remember correctly, so give me some liberties:

Wood is recommended to be stored in the east part of the house. water in a certain area, house should face this way, with windows located here.
Why? Major killer in the past, black plague, rats. Keep wood, and the pests possibly hiding there in a different part of the house. Keep water in a part of the house where it would be cooler. No fans or A/C, take advantage of the wind .

Why mention Darwin? Because over thousands of years, it was observed families with their house laid out a certain way were healthier.

They developed an explanation and theory. Feng Shui

Oh come on. Just because it has been around for a long time makes it more valuable?

Modern germ theory and antibiotics are both "new kids on the block" and yet anyone with brains will go with a real doctor and not a witch doctor. Chinese "medicine" has been around a long time and 99.9999% of it is total poppycock and the cause of the decimation of the Elephant and Rino population as well as many sharks. Do you really think ground up rino horn will help anyone more than a Viagra pill?

I could go on but it gets into a rather PARF like thing so I will stop.

Nah, not saying if it helps or not. Just saying where it came from, and its need in the past.

Or did you overlook that?
