Paramount Ranch / Malibu- gone

The fires destroyed this park that was the site of a old west studio town and the race track that preceded it . Races were held there in the fifties with Ol Yellar, Gullwings, Jags, MG, Corvette etc.

Though most of the race course was overgrown and the bridge area filled in with a fair amount of dirt, you could actually drive it for most of the circuit.

Hopefully the communities nearby fared better than this landmark area

That is very sad. Paramount goes the way of all of the old great movie ranches except that was in 1970. Huge fires that burned from Santa Clarita all the way to the coast.

Watching the news shows fires close to or in, Malibu. Man the wind does blow. Stay safe out there.

One of the venues of the 2005 West Coast Classic. About 50 914's parked on the old race track. Great event.

Yeah... we parked in a semi circle on the curved bank turn closest to the "town"
Howard (RIP) did an outstanding job putting it together. First time I learned about In/Out burger bringing a mobile kitchen to events

It is sad, but then again, it's Hollywood. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to re-build.

Sounds like the "ranch" part is gone, but the racetrack is still largely there. There is some video of the place from a couple of late '50's 'B' movies. It's a great day trip from around southern California, but you have to know what you're looking for to walk the exact racetrack. All the early so. Cal legends raced there in the two years it operated. A few also died there, and the track was closed in 1957. Riverside Raceway had opened.

The losses from this one will be hard to quantify. Houses, everything in them, animals and yes, cars. Lots and lots of very desirable Porsches, Ferraris and other precious metal. This is a vast area of SoCal wealth.

I have friends who had to evacuate early this morning and they do not know if they still have a house. What's inside is a mind-boggling amount of irreplaceable art and treasure.

Hope all you folks who live out there are OK. But I have to wonder why California constantly suffers from these fires- don't they conduct controlled burns or clear underbrush?

There is a lot of brush clearing that goes on in residential/occupied areas, (it's mandatory), but what many people do not realize is just how much urban forrest there is here. Fires have always happened but they are getting a lot worse in the last few years.

Geez that sucks. I’m not a huge fan of the LA area but I have always enjoyed Malibu.

What is driving the increased intensity of the fires over the last few years? Is it primarily drought?

Most believe that the effects if climate change are leading to longer, dryer fire seasons and larger, more intense fires.

Trying to wrap my head around the horror of it all. Being told you have mere minutes to grab what is important, then get out of there. Taking too long can cost you your life.

You know, having a "bugout bag" isn't an idea for just crazy survivalists.

My BIL was at work, he didn’t even have a chance to grab a bag of clothes or any family treasures
His neighbor called him and gave him the news

Rock Store is gone. Oh, Mash was filmed on another set called owned at that time by 20th Century Fox. It is now part of Malibu Creek State Park.

We used to run that creek from Malibou Lake to the Park Gate with a loop to the Mash Set and Back on New Years; the world famous hangover run. Jack Thomas used to sponsor it at his wonderful home on a rocky knoll on the lake. Jack passed in early 2017 and right now it looks like Jack's house may be gone too. Damn tragedy.

Life goes on.
