Really Solid Locking Casters
Hey, just a quickie for your guys. No, not that kind of quickie.
You know how, if you have a piece of equipment on caster wheels, even if you lock all four caster wheels, the equipment will still move a little because the caster wheel rotates around its steering axis? I don't want that movement. I am looking for the name or link for the kind of caster that, when you lock it, the wheel retracts and the equipment's leg rests on the floor, and the equipment is as solidly planted on the ground as if it were on fixed legs.

This is my particular favorite for equipment design; they provide a nice leveling foot that can be anchored to the floor:

I'll need to tell my son about leveling castors (not just locking). He was complaining about my 200# welding table moving around on him the other day. Thanks.

I have these in my workshop for a bandsaw and a jointer (both over 200# each) and they are great....easy to move and no movement once the front casters are retracted:

You really want "double locking" casters, where the wheel and the swivel both lock - unless you need the leveling feature.
We mostly buy stainless which are more expensive but something like this should work fine: https://www.amazon.com/Double-Locking-Swivel-Caster-Mounting/dp/B001N1LEGE BTW - That's not the kind of thing where Amazon usually has the best deals. Casters are a PITA to specify - way to much variation in wheel material, bearings, locking etc etc.

Or some all thread with a double nut that you can run down with your cordless drill. There is another version where the rolling base is relieved and the tool settles solidly on the floor. Look at Google Images for all kinds of ideas, some pretty good. |

Want to replace my crappy kitchen table with a homemade rolling island, but want that island to be firmly planted so you can knead dough etc on it w/o the whole island shifting around.
Reason for homemade is that the island needs to have a bunch of supports for half sheet pans - kind of like a baker's rack. I don't have enough counter space for large cooking projects, so I want to work on half sheet pans then store them in the rack while I work on the next project.
