Now we can't even play in the leaves?

UPS driver saw a kid playing in the leaves at the side of the road.

Seems reasonable to me. Otherwise the story might be about the squished boy.

I think it’s more about “dont play in a pile of leaves in the road where your dumb ass may get run over”

Agree with Milt.

Perfectly reasonable.

Sure sets a bad precedence for sledding down hilly streets though

I remember as a kid living in Iowa where some woman came up to park in a pile of leaves and ran over, killed the kid hiding in them. I never played in the street leaves again.

Makes perfect sense to me, as I've seen people deliberately plow through piles of leaves in their cars.

There was such a story in Portland Oregon some time back. Very sad...

It's my understanding that the driver saw the kid, told his mother, and later they staged the scene for the photo making sure it had a desired effect.
Seems to have worked.

The biggest and simplest lesson, don't play in the streets where you are hidden. Hide and seek in the streets is a BAD idea. Riding your bike in the streets at night with no lights or reflectors while wearing black is just as stupid. Heck just walking down the street dressed in dark clothes is stupid and is a good way to ruin you fun.

Hiding in a pile of leaves in the street = pretty stupid.

We called it Skitching.

Best way to and from school in the winter.

In SoCal they did that with skateboards.

Not that I ever did such a crazy thing!!!

Does riding around town on your friends Ford F1 running boards count as crazy?

Have to agree, hiding in a pile of leaves in the street not a good idea.

[Rant mode on]

RE: Wearing dark clothes and crossing the street... late at night... wearing a hoodie... crossing in the middle of the street... not looking at traffic...

A couple times a year one of these guys gets hit... community goes into a uproar "everyone slow down!!!" A politician will use it as a photo opp to get a new stop sign/light installed.

A couple months go by and another one of these guys get hit.

[rant off}

In my hometown of Paterson NJ there is/was our favorite sledding hill...E25th St. It was too steep to be safely plowed so was closed to traffic most of the winter. We took over and had too much fun. But we neglected the cross street at the bottom of the hill which led to some very, VERY close calls. However no one ever came to stop us from sledding. Guess we were expendable

Sure you were...lots of kids about. Every one of them made by volunteer unskilled labor. More being made as we sit at our keyboards.

I played in leaves as a kid. But in my parents or grandparents yards. Never in the street.
Where's the parent?
