Thank goodness one of them wasn't a valuable car like a Mustang

First rule of participating in a track day - everyone is on their own. Regardless of what kind of a major dick head move the other guy pulls, you fix your own car. No one is liable for anything but their own. Sorry...

Haha - WTF!?

I see this a lot in all sorts of hobbies - people with no time but lots of money and no skill trying to make up for it by buying the best equipment. Never works very well.

I would hope if you can buy any of those cars, you can write a check for a new one.

That was the first thing that cross my mind and not the dumb ass in the Gt2 and his lack of driving ability

I know that no matter what happens, ya gotta to pay for your own car on the track but man, that's a lot of $$$$$ like you said

I wish the camera never stopped rolling and see what happen. Reality show at it best. I know, I am a drama queen

You would be astonished at just how many people couldn't even write a check for the first one. Many (most?) of these cars are owned by folks right on the ragged edge of having finagled their way into it. Most are counting on making some money when they flip it. When things like this happen, destroying the value of their "investment", they are well and truly doomed. And the desperate lawsuits start...

I would agree for some "super cars" Jeff, but arent Pagani's really really expensive?

Also does Hagerty etc offer track insurance?

I think you're right. It does look like chrome when it's up on two wheels for a moment just after hitting the Pagani.

IMO The Porsche driver was pushing it way too hard and he didn't make that corner. It just so happens the Pagani was in the way...

The Porsche driver probably opened his door so quickly in order to get out and give the pagans driver pagani for cutting him off.

I'm not allowed to wade in that end of the pool, so I honestly don't know. Maybe once that get that uber rare and expensive, the "owners" really do own them.

It does seem to me, however, that an awful lot of our local PCA set either lease their cars or are one bad day from financial ruin. Mortgages leveraged to buy cars, credit cards maxed to pay other credit cards, etc.

Yes, they do. It's about $300-$400 per day for a car like my '72 hot rod 911. I'm sure it's substantially more for a GT3 or something.

^This.

Big difference between high income and high net worth.
Most high net worth individuals got there by not spending $200,000 on a car.

Bingo! To some, image is everything, so they spend to impress others. To more sensible folks, money represents security, so they spend on quality items they enjoy, but not bling.

Shortly before leaving the Porsche scene, I met more than a few folks who were obviously overextended financially.

One of the indicators of this state of affairs is just how many exotics come up for sale when their first major service is due. Guys hanging on by the skin of their teeth are just not able to foot those $20k service bills. Of course, that is why so many of them lease.

Agree about leasing and being stretched thin. Now If you are the type that needs the latest and greatest leasing might be smart.

I paid cash for my latest 911 and wouldn’t have purchased it if I could not have. There are some good threads in the marketplace about people taking loans for air cooled cars...

From what I hear the average citizen has a 7 year car loan! That is astonishing to me. I have not made a car payment in this millennium. I bought my 911 back in 1995 and took out a two year loan for some reasons that don't matter now. It that was to buy a toy that has since almost tripled in value.

Our local dealer has this fine toy for sale. I bet they will come off that price a few grand!

Yeah, I have never understood the guys that take out loans for toys. When I was younger, my wife wasn't working, we had two little boys, yes - we took out a loan for a new car for her. Even then that bothered me, since I had never done that before. Every car (or bike) I had ever bought for myself had always been cash, even the daily drivers. Granted, my tastes have always run to the older stuff, so I realize that I might be a bit of an anomaly. But, still, to tell my wife I'm taking out a loan for a toy car? That ain't happening. Even if I were o.k. with it, which I'm just not.
