My FIL sent this my way this morning. Pretty neat styling and design - definitely appealing to the "environmental bro".

I'm not sure.

It is difficult to be more environmental than buying an already made truck that is long lasting. Especially given my seldom use.

From my perspective electric vehicles outside of certain applications are not environmentally friendly; and are simply luxury items/toys.

So it would come down to how small of a % the E-truck would be of my income if I would buy one or not.

For now the answer is no.

I like the 400 mile range. The rest is OK, but it needs a bigger bed. I'd like to see it towing something or with a big load in the bed. It seems like an electric El Camino - not really a truck, but not a car either.

Not a bad looking thing. Sounds impressive, 400 miles and 3 secs.

Can it tow anything and what's the range go to when you tow with it. I don't see the point if it can't tow or the range drops to 50 miles if you are towing.

Still, not my thing. I don't even have an IC truck, so pretty unlikely to get an electric. It seems like it would be great to have a small IC motor to act as a generator only to extend the range. The IC motor could be really designed to be hugely efficient at a very small RPM range and just run a generator to extend the range. But then the folks that think their electric vehicle causes no fuel use wouldn't buy it (nevermind where the electricity that they charge the thing comes from).

My guess is that when you're towing a big load, that range would shrink fast and hard.

I know tesla has a impressive 0-60 time, but I have yet to see a tesla in the fast lane.
This might sell with the urban crowd, but until they can charge as fast as filling a gas tank I don't see anyone else buying one. Especially in the northern climates.

Another thing is an Etruck just screams poser.

Make a powertrain similar to a diesel electric locomotive.

I suppose the two problems with it are weight and space.

Maybe the batteries are the trailer? No interest here. I want a big bed and the ability to haul and/or tow stuff. Really dont care about tech, its a tool to me.

I'm assuming that you could use a very small motor, but still, yeah, you've got to have a place to put it. I guess that truck did have a "frunk" like my Boxster.

Base model with 300 mile rage is 61.5k after fed rebate. . (69,000 with 7500 credit). Shipping not included in 69k price tag.

The factory is 10 minutes from where I now sit and was formerly a Mitsubishi factory. They haven't produced anything yet. Right now, they are renting out their lots for completed vehicles to Volkswagen for recalled diesels.

Look up Rivian, they have a history of taking subsidies from a state, not producing anything, changing their name, moving to another state and taking more subsidies.

I'm skeptical that anything will be produced. If it is, I'm not sure there is enough of a market for $70,000 electric trucks to sustain Rivian.

I like the concept of electric cars. The possible acceleration. I also like the idea of filling up while I sleep. Not the buy in though. I am not in that crowd that has excessive cash and not willing to make payments.

I considered buying another i3 REX and trying to get my gear into it. I do not tow, I do not go off road, I just need a SUV or Pickup I can put my gear in.

I am buying 2-3 tanks of gas a week right now. I would love to not buy any.

Way cooler than the electric Silverado they started out with.

A friend of mine works for them, he used to work for a sub-contractor of Tesla but moved up in the world.

Reminds me of the Honda Ridgeline which is described by some as a "life style truck" (whatever that is). 400 mile range is great. The batteries in these vehicles are steadily improving but I don't think we'll see any HUGE advances until it finally gets to be too expensive to pull the oil out of the ground. Or it runs out or both. I don't see internal combustion engines phasing out too soon but I think most of the R/D is going electric. Ideally, a solar powered re-charge system would be perfect. It might happen but I don't quite see it happening in my life time.

I guess you missed my post above. This one is 45-50K.

Ohio-based Workhorse is trying to be the first to market with a plug-in hybrid electric pickup truck.

The company claims to have accumulated over 5,300 orders for its truck since unveiling it last year and now it opens reservations to the public.

Workhorse’s W-15 is equipped with a unique hybrid powertrain technology.

They say it will get up to 80 miles on all-electric mode thanks to a very large 60 kWh battery pack (for a PHEV) – though they say that they are software-locking 20 kWh in capacity to reduce battery degradation.

There are two schools of thoughts on the matter. Some think it’s a waste of capacity and that they should let owners access the energy when needed, and others like not to have to worry about the battery losing capacity against the advertised range after a few years.

But the large battery pack is also useful to power tools on location for constructions workers and other hobbyists – with a 7.2 kW power system that allows owners to plug-in anything.

When the battery pack is depleted, the gasoline engine kicks in to act as a range extender to feed the two 230-hp/172-kW electric motors, one at each axle, that powers the vehicle. Combined, Workhorse claims a range of 310 miles for the W-15 and a 28/32 mpg city/highway mileage when running only on gasoline.

With a planned starting price of $52,000 before incentives, buyers of the electric pickup could potentially get away with the truck for a reasonable $40,000 to $45,000 after incentives in certain states and provinces.

It’s apparently good enough offer to attract over 5,300 pre-orders, according to the company.
