One of my former buddies had a family name of Slutsky. For a guy I always knew he had a tough time in high school. Then he introduced me to her sister. Imaging a girl going through high school with a last name of Slutsky.

My favorite bad name is someone I met. She had a first name of Rhoda. Like the character in the Mary Tyler Moore series. OK, no big deal, and her last name was common. Then she fell in love and married a guy with the family name of Ruter. She started using her middle name of Susan.

True story, wife works at a University, mother called up to complain no one is pronouncing her daughter name correctly. Her name is La-A.

The mother said you are supposed to pronounce the dash.

So her name is pronounced Ladasha.

I would like to point out a difference between us.

I see nothing wrong the name.

I like creative and different.

But when creative and different you have to accept that human nature and culture are prone to react to the novel.

Now, if you don't like that, you can train every possible person the child might come in contact with about her name and thus change the culture(Which is what going viral on social media does), or, you can teach the child to accept the novelty, or you can name the child differently.

+1
It’s stupid to give your child an unusual name and get pissed if everyone doesn’t get it.

We are not talking "everyone" here.
I doubt the story would have hit the news if the person laughing was some random individual. But in this case the person who got called out was working in customer service. They were not being paid to have fun at a customer's expense. They were being paid to represent their company.
If they wanted to talk about the unusual name in the break room or off the job, I understand that. But their behaviour was not professional. Censure was appropriate.

I do agree that corporate also acted according to corporate nature, and that an employee should have their employer in mind. When it comes to social media if you are putting products(such as a air pass) on social media it is best to run that by PR first. And if you make a habit of posting work related items that are not in line with the results the employer wants to see you can be terminated.

Such as Jessica Price's paying the price for angry hateful tweets at her company's customer base.

Ultimately, the mother should step back and figure out a better way to handle this.

Secondly, when working for an employer you need to set aside parts of who you are and instead don the mask of who you're working for.

Just this past week, I came across people by the names of Starlet, Brucelee, and (obligatory P-car content) La Porsha!
