Who is the manufacturer of the lights?
I have a number of florescent 8 footers that are starting to dim again.
Had replaced tubes and went to electronic ballasts a number of years ago.
Cold weather performance is pretty lousy but better than the standard ballasts.

Shaun @ Tru6 01-01-2020 02:01 PM

What brand are the lights? Have a link?

rfuerst911sc 01-01-2020 02:09 PM

I love the LED lights I installed in my man cave garage . I mounted them about 6 " below the ceiling on three walls . I was a little nervous it might not be bright enough WOW was I wrong ! Between the white painted walls and the white metal ceiling it is VERY bright .

URY914 01-01-2020 03:46 PM

The fixtures are from Lithonia Lighting. 8400 Lumins each. Got them thru Graybar electrical supplier.

billybek 01-01-2020 05:44 PM

Thanks!

Baz 01-01-2020 06:02 PM

Looking good, Paul....thanks for the update, amigo!

On the subject of lighting - my 2 car garage has only ever had one standard light bulb in the center.

Finally after 23 years I installed two 4' long additional fixtures on each side. One is an LED one from HD and the other a two bulb florescent someone was throwing away that works perfectly.

When I go out there now at night and switch on those lights - it's like a whole new world!

One day I will install a better system.

I haven't updated you in awhile but here is a pic of the latest progress. This pic is a few weeks old but the plywood roof decking is about 95% as of yesterday. The areas that are open n this shot have all be covered now.

Maybe I missed this, but why did you build with that corner cut out versus just making the 2 walls intersect into a corner? Seems you are missing some space and made it more complex.

Shaun @ Tru6 01-02-2020 12:32 PM

Are these the same lights

Lights

URY914 01-02-2020 02:59 PM

Those are by Philips, mine are by Lithonia. But same 3500 lumans.

Surprised no one asked sooner. I cut the corner back because if I would run the walls out the corner of the building would have blocked our view from the deck and back window of the house. We live on a golf course and we can see the pond and didn't want to block the view.

Yes this inside corner created MUCH more work. I now have two valleys on the roof and the roof framing was more difficult. It also adds some character to the outside of the addition. I wanted something besides a long straight wall.

madcorgi 01-02-2020 03:12 PM

Looks great, Paul.

Scott Douglas 01-02-2020 03:15 PM

I was wondering the same thing but didn't want to ask what seemed like a foolish question.
I would have just made that 'corner' on a diagonal and put a large window in it.
Nice project and the roof turned out great.

URY914 01-02-2020 03:45 PM

I kinda like the inside corner because I can hide stuff in it. ;)

Nice, I see that as perfectly reasonable, well thought out reasons to make more work.

URY914 01-11-2020 04:49 PM

Added one of these cord reels. 40' of cord mounded in the middle of the garage.

Working on moving my junk out of the storage unit and into the shop. I've moved everything 50 times.

Smart move I did the same in mine . Centrally located it can reach anywhere in the garage .

VincentVega 01-11-2020 08:30 PM

Cool project, good work.

I remember when my shop was finally done, it seemed huge! Now, I'm shifting around again to gain a few feet here and there. It fills up quick.

URY914 01-19-2020 04:59 AM

Finally completely out of my storage unit. That $300/month can be used somewhere else. Don't tell the building department I've taken occupancy, but it just a shop. It's not a crowded as this photo indicates. Now that I've got all my crap here I can work to organize it and make some space.

I was able to save 3 birch doors from the dumpster at work. 33" x 80" x 1 3/4" solid wood they were sliding doors so there is no hardware prep cut outs on them. Perfect for bench tops. Almost too pretty to use.

Seahawk 01-19-2020 05:14 AM

Nice!

I refinished a few old work benches that came with the farm...sanded, stained and sealed them. I would at least seal the doors you repurposed...my are still holding up with no "marks" from oil, gun cleaning stuff, etc.

Again, nicely done!

rfuerst911sc 01-19-2020 05:31 AM

Hey Paul it's looking good ! Nice repurposing on the solid core doors . It's amazing how quickly a large empty space gets small when filled with stuff :D

URY914 04-01-2020 04:08 PM

I didn't realize it has been so long since my last update.

I ordered and finally installed the back door. I don't know it at the time I ordered but I have a diamond plate door. I looked at the Lowe's website and my order and no where does it say it would have this finish. It says smooth. But after I got it's kinda grown on me and everyone I show it to likes it.

URY914 04-01-2020 04:10 PM

Also got my garage door too...........

URY914 04-01-2020 04:11 PM

And started the Hardie plank siding and trim.

Cool door.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-01-2020 04:13 PM

I like the door, sort of a bonus.

URY914 04-01-2020 04:16 PM

First time working with cement board plank siding. Stuff is heavy and if you let it flip sideways it will break. It comes primed or colored and I'm using the primed. 7.25" x 12' cost $7.99 a board.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1585786321.jpg

URY914 04-01-2020 04:20 PM

I also picked up these perfect cabinets from a reno project at work. Super nice. They were headed to the dumpster. 14 l.f. and the doors swing 180 degrees.

I forget the brand of you installation clamps but that are the BOMB! I used them when installing the Nichiha plank siding on my 38x60 shop. I used 16' lengths rather than 12' though.

Edit: Just noticed - you're not matching the reveal of the new siding to match the existing?

Looks great!

Leave a small gap at the ends and butt joints. Also, where a mask...That dust is a killer.

That corner is the only place where the new meets the old siding. The old siding is cedar planks the new ones aren't available in a size that is a exact match. I didn't want to have to rip all the planks down to match so I can live with it.

rfuerst911sc 04-02-2020 03:18 AM

Coming along nicely Paul and that diamond tread door is cool !

URY914 04-05-2020 11:13 AM

Today's progress.

I can really cover it up when I only need to cut every other plank.

In the morning.....

Looks great Paul what do you cut that with ? It's cement board correct ?

URY914 04-05-2020 04:12 PM

Yes cement board. This site gives a very good description of the material........

URY914 06-15-2020 04:48 PM

It's been awhile so here's a update;

Continuing around with the siding/planks. I had to figure out the best way to put in a hose bibb. Need to keep it waterproof.

URY914 06-15-2020 04:50 PM

The hose bibb is on the wall that the scaffold is against. Just one more wall to go.
