can you run hot water too?
very helpful to have it... |
Before I can continue running the planks I need to install the door and trim so I can run the planks and butt them up to the trim. This is the location of the door from the outside. This will lead to the new laundry room in the corner of the shop. It leads in from the deck and about 4 steps from the kitchen door.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592268810.jpg This is the inside of the same wall. I''d already moved the water heated which in the corner on the right when I took this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592269063.jpg |

The door was a PITA to cut out, reframe, replumb, build the sill, waterproof the outside, move the washer drain. Took weeks. Here it is now.

The conduit on the right is the feed to the panel on the wall on the right. On the left of the door just below it is the washer drain line. When we bought the house the drain ran into the backyard. At least now it drains to the house. I need to repipe it between but for now it works. Next is to build a floor to bring the laundry room up to the floor elevation of the deck.

Once I build floor then I'll put the water heater in the corner behind door. I'll go back and insulate the lines too but its not a big deal here. You can see the kitchen door on the right from here. The door on the left is going away. That door is lower because the floor of that room is a step lower than the rest of the house. I plan to fix that by raising the floor and taking the door out.

Reached a huge milestone yesterday:
I passed the building department's FINAL inspection!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1598575175.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1598575195.jpg Still have plenty to do; finish the deck, paint it, soffits, gutters, etc., etc. And that's just the outside. |
Congratulations Paul! That must feel great.
|
Thanks Shaun. It does feel good.
I drove about 80% of the nails myself. I'll keep posting as I buildout the interior. |
Looks great!
Nice score on the sink too. |
Man you get some very cool and useful stuff from work. Congrats on what looks like a job well done and it must feel good to save that $300 a month and have all your stuff right there at hand.
It seemed like a long hard project but you have the satisfaction of doing it mostly yourself and your almost done except for some small finish up items. Good luck with many years of usefulness Tony |
Congrats Paul it's been a long time coming ........... been there done that :D . That sink you saved will last forever nice score .
|
Looks great! Can't wait to see the interior work. Also, the free stuff you scored is sweet!
:) |
Congratulations Paul, must be a great feeling having that signed piece of paper
The outside looks great, very professionally finished so I'm sure your inspector found approval was well deserved |
Congrats!
But I'm curious as to why there is a 'concave' exterior corner... |
Congratulations, when is the shop warming party?

Time for an update don't ya think?
I've been working inside and out after getting the final inspection. I built a golf ball protection device over my one and only window. Today when I got home from work I found a ball about 8 feet from the window. I have no idea if it hit it but I'm feeling better now that it is covered with galvanized screening. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954251.jpg |
Also finished the missing piece of the deck where it meets the shop wall. I did this months ago before prices went crazy.

|
The laundry room was next. The floor in this area needs to be raised to the deck outside the door.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954565.jpg A PT 2x4 on it's side on the floor with a 2 x 10 upright and I didn't have to rip it down. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954660.jpg |
Floor was in and time to build the walls.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954772.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954832.jpg |
Now I needed a landing and a step into the shop.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620954876.jpg |
I put down a piece of thick rolled flooring. I need to get a piece of metal stair nosing to finish it off but for now it's just duct tape. The water heater on the right. Added the step out of left over decking.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955197.jpg |
I needed some storage for all my long wood/metal/aluminum so I added these brackets to the studs.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955247.jpg |
But it wasn't enough so I made a rack out of HEAVY double solid unistruct with one end hanging and the other end on the wall.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955512.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955532.jpg |
On the outside I needed a deck for the grill and to fill in the corner.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955608.jpg Decided to "picture frame" it and run the planks on the diagonal which means more framing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1620955639.jpg |
I was lucky enough to buy the 5/4 planked months ago before the price increase. it's nice and dried out. Also bought the cheaper lower grade planks with the knots for this area.

Still on the list:
An outside shed built up against the back wall of the shop for yard tools, mower, and related crap. Finish off the interior of the laundry room Gutters and soffits Pavers leading to the garage doors on the front. Replace the old original door on the front of the shop with a hanging sliding door. All to be done AFTER the prices get back to normal. Stay tuned! SmileWavy |
gas grill on the deck?
a concrete patio would let you use a wood fired grill |
Gas grill.
Wood fired would be too much work. ;) |
Nice work, as always!
|
Like the deck detail outside the door!
