Time to buy GE?
Closed around $6.72 today. Never thought I’d see it. So, time to jump in? New CEO, plenty of cash on hand, yet could still fall further. Analysts suggest it will fall further. Are they right?
Thoughts?

I really don’t know what GE actually is anymore.
It looks allot like Sears did before they bought Kame-Apart and went totally worthless. So BUY! |

Years ago, my father-in-law bought a bunch of GE stock to finance my daughter's college. She'll be starting next year. Last year it was worth enough to cover 2 years of college. Now it won't cover a semester. So much for that.

I bought some a couple months ago and again a few weeks ago thinking it couldn’t go lower. So much for not going lower. Just goes to show I have no business picking stocks. I may roll the dice and buy more tomorrow because their assets and market share in the utility business I’m in is just so huge I can’t imagine them going under.

Good grief no, American conglomerates chasing the falling knife.... no thanks. There are great American companies worth investing in but the slow moving mammoths aren't where I'd look.

But when does the value trap become a value buy?

I'm a Capitalist of the highest order but I'll openly admit that >70% of executive energy at GE is spent figuring out how to justify the next round of bonuses for the middle to upper management groups. Jackals feeding off the carcass.

When the overall company value momentum ceases moving further into negative territory. Total liquidation is currently a negative number and liability is still expanding to the downside. It needs to stabilize or else restructuring will eventually follow.

Forget the stock, do you believe in the turnaround story? Could be 5 years or more, if you turn out to be right,

Wouldn't buy GE stock, but have purchased a couple of their short term bond offerings....6.5-7% yields.

My dad was a 35+ year GE employee. When he passed a few years ago, his portfolio included a fair amount of GE stock. Mom did well on the annual dividend. But, of course, that is now gone.
In a nutshell, GE lost its way when Jack Welsh retired. The following years were a disaster. If one is not already a GE stock owner, buy. If you are an owner, sell.
