what vodka mixers?
So mom is having a thing for me on Sunday, brunch with booze and bagels.
Bloody mary/cesars (or whatever you call 'mater juice and vodak) are on the list. Typically when we've had the urge at work for the non-alcoholic version, we just use spicy low sodium V8, a squirt of siracha, a dollop of horse radish, and either dill pickles, spicy pickles from Wickles (awesome if you have 'em in your area) or some mixed pickled veg (carrot, cauliflower, green beans, etc) Thinking of all of that, plus some nice olives (stuffed, etc) and some fresh veggies. Without going to the extreme of hanging half a BBQ chicken off the side of the glass, or a piece of pizza, etc any other suggestions as to what to offer for folks to build their own? Also, what other mixers would be good for vodka for those who can't stand tomatoes? Thinking to have OJ and cranberry on hand. Should I have some tonic or something like 7up? |

Screwmosas are always on our brunch list. It's a combination of a screwdriver and a mimosa - vodka, orange juice, and champagne.
I would totally make a drink with half a chicken, or some beef tripe, or pork brains hanging off the glass. Sounds festive.

Good tonic water, maybe something by Fever Tree. They have a number of variations, let me know if you need me to be more specific.
There are several good bloody Mary mixes out there, I prefer the spicier ones. Most people can't make one from scratch, so I'd stick to a mix. Women tend to like cosmopolitans and lemon drops, so I'd probably round up the stuff for those. I've heard some people drink vodka with Redbull, you couldn't pay me to do that, but who knows what people want? |

Vodka Tonic with a wedge of lemon
One of my buddies introduced me to Frozen Stoli's with a wedge of orange. You keep the vodka in the freezer, chill glasses. Put a wedge of orange in the bottom of the glass, fill with ice and then fill with the frozen vodka. Use a small glass! The Ex-Mrs. Beard used to love that drink. She called it a "Weak Screwdriver", because it didn't have much orange. The classic is a Vodka Martini. Again, best with frozen vodka. Take a martini glass, "wet" it with vermouth (pour in a small amount, spin it to wet the inside and pour out extra). Fill glass with vodka. Garnish with an olive. You can use more vermouth, but never get above a ratio of 5 to 1, Vodka to Vermouth.

Classic Caesar Recipe
The basic caesar recipe follows 1-2-3-4-5 rule. You can use any vodka and change the ratio depending on how hot you like it but don’t skip the clamato juice. The Classic Ceasar Drink Prep Time 5 minutes Servings 1 INGREDIENTS Follow the 1-2-3-4-5 rule for creating the Classic Caesar Ingredients 1.5 oz vodka 2 Dashes hot sauce 3 Dashes salt and pepper 4 Dashes worcestershire sauce 5 oz Clamato juice Celery salt on plate 1 lime Here's an easy recipe for Canada's national cocktail - the Caesar drink is like the bloody mary but inspired by Italy. INSTRUCTIONS Create a celery salt rim on the glass by running the lime around the glass rim and turning the glass upside down to dip in the celery salt. Add all ingredients to glass with ice, garnish with a celery stalk. If you want to kick it up a notch throw in a tablespoon of horseradish, it’s not the classic recipe but it’s so delicious.
