Found under floorboard of Ural sidecar - Weapon?

Removed the seat and floorboard of the sidecar to replace with a pad that I was hoping our St. Bernard would sit on...with no luck. Soon as the engine started, she leaped out. But, this was in the floor...looks like something from a mobster movie. Pretty heavily weighted on the flared end. Seems like it could make a punch pretty brutal. Any ideas?

Ural sidecar passengers sometimes need a little encouragement.

The term "Sap" would be from back in the day (gangster years). The term seems to be interchangeable with "blackjack". And, yes, it would be considered to be a weapon! You could put it back for the next owner to find!

my grandpa called it a "kelly come along".

congratulations on the Ural. some dogs are born to it. some never learn.

i can hook you up with a guy in the Ukraine. Urals are basically soviet military surplus. and there are warehouses full of WW2 machine gun mounts for the car.

This. Many states frown on brass knuckles or blackjacks or weapons like that one.

My son called it a slapjack. But I get the idea. Probably not a bad thing to have along if stopping for gas (or breaking down...it is a Ural after all) in a sketchy neighborhood. I live in Georgia...pretty much any weapon is legal, and I have a Ga. weapons permit.

Maybe I can use it as encouragement for one of the pups to sit still and enjoy the ride!

Kidding, of course.

Be careful with that, Mike, and don't assume anything. Here in Washington our CCW's allow us to carry firearms, and only firearms. Knives beyond a certain length are illegal in some cities, like Seattle. So are "dirks" or daggers, brass knuckles, and too sharp of a whit (sorry, couldn't help myself...).

Keep working with your pup. I bet once you get moving, and she gets some wind in her hair, she will forget all about the noise. I think she would eventually grow to love it, and maybe even come running when she hears it start. Try starting it before she gets in, so it's running as she approaches it. Maybe have someone hold her leash while you putt up and down the street a few times. Slowly get her used to the noise and maybe she will warm up to it.

Cowboy was born to it. He thought of himself as a king and the sidecar as his chariot. Took the seat out to make it more comfortable and lower the center of gravity.

TRex was hesitant, but hated being left behind. She became a pro eventually. Would lean into corners.

Chaos, is far too twitchy and hyper. He won’t sit still. Gonna be years before he settles down.

The only real advice I have is that older dogs are better.

Cool find!

I have some brass knuckles my daughter found at school years ago. She gave them to me to add to my collection of automatics.

I imagine they’d put a hurt on someone.
