Did it not touch his thumb?!

Although I don't think it could be determined 100% that the ball touched his thumb I'm surprised they found a way to determine 100% that it did not touch it, and reversed the call. I also thought it was interesting that the announcers spent little-to-no time on the possibility of additional offending digits - not a thumb, but fingers. The the fingers that were on the ground were hidden by the ball from every camera angle, something that should have effectively eliminated any possibility of an overturn.

We like to believe that bad calls and non-calls balance out over the course of a game, and sometimes they actually do In this game however, they most assuredly did not.

Pats shouldn’t have been in the superbowl that year either

Hell, I'm still miffed that Mel Gray was awarded a touchdown after catching a ball while in the air (and in the end zone) then subsequently fumbling it before any part of him ever touched terra firma.

This is now being touted as the most flagrant non call in the history of the NFL!! That's a pretty bold statement, but that's what all the commentators/ media outlets are saying now. And yes, this DID cause the Saints to not make it in.. I'm still stunned and in disbelief that it wasn't called.

Looking at it again, it's mind boggling that it wasn't called. I'm glad I'm not a Saints fan.

Hmm...interesting!

Because all commentators are always correct. This is special.

Which penalty....pass interference or leading with his helmet...to the head? Time for a rule change...within reason hopefully.

both games did that. there was a play where it went through Edelman's hands and the second person to hit the receiver just creamed him with helmet to helmet on the way down. I guess it's fair when the receiver doesn't catch the ball.

these guys play at a high enough level where when they want to hurt someone they will... They do.

NFL politics!

Didn't watch. Don't care. But I did see this in the news:

Should have never admitted fault for not calling pass int

Crowbob 01-22-2019 06:59 PM

It's seems like it would be pretty difficult not to admit fault when literally millions of people saw it live, and on tape from a buncha different angles about a hundred thousand million hundred times.

flatbutt 01-22-2019 07:18 PM

What's the line on Goodell calling a do-over? 100-1 against? 10,000 - 1?

chapo 01-22-2019 07:41 PM

I guess if Breez didn't throw the INT after this non call all would be good. They had their chances after the call, one play doesn't decide a game.

Crowbob 01-22-2019 08:09 PM

But Breez would not have had to throw the ball at all had the call been made.

Why don't we just have each team run just one play each and then speculate about the outcome of the game?

The fact is this was a majorly bad call. No doubt at all about it. Whether it cost the team the game is anybody's guess. It was a bad call that should be remedied. Now if an indisputable and seriously bad call at a crucial time in a championship game is a calamity then there is a clear remedy that is in the rules.

In these types of games. Yes. Yes it does come down to one play.

chapo 01-22-2019 08:13 PM

Guess what , each team had many times to win the game, one play doesn't make the game. The coaches from both teams have reviewed the film and saw multiple times they could have made a better play. Don't put yourself in a position that the call can make or break the game, coaching 101. been there, done that. Its easy for fans to pinpoint one play and say we were screwed!

chapo 01-22-2019 08:16 PM

Rams outplayed the Saints in second half, not saying this as a homer since I like both teams and Drew in particular, but you have to finish no matter what.

chapo 01-22-2019 08:20 PM

Coached FB for 14 years, nope one play doesn't. Put yourself in a position to win no matter what.
