Have you stopped buying ammo lately?

Apparently, those PPOT shooters and gun enthusiasts have cut back on their ammo purchases lately:

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ammo-seller-vista-outdoors-stock-plunges-to-record-low-ceo-doesnt-know-when-sales-will-bottom-2019-02-07

Partial content:
Shares of Vista Outdoor Inc. plunged to a record low in active trade Thursday, after the ammunition and outdoor recreation products seller missed sales expectations and cut its outlook, with Chief Executive Chris Metz indicating he didn’t know when the weakness would end.

“This period of soft demand has persisted longer than any previous market cycle in recent history,” Metz said on the post-earnings conference call with analysts, according to a transcript provided by FactSet. “There’s simply no precedent for this trend.”

He said the company has studied a series of data points in an attempt to get a read on the trend, including National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), point-of-sale data, consumer surveys and federal excise tax data. But whatever metric you choose, “we see a continued challenge,” Metz said.

Some of us haven't.

https://www.courant.com/politics/capitol-watch/hc-pol-jillian-gilchrest-50-percent-ammo-tax-20190205-xm4tv6dq2zfbphirunnotk3yeq-story.html

Not trying to turn this into a PARF thread but certain behaviors from politicians have persuaded me to stock up on ammo for target shooting to avoid paying heavily for that same ammo in the future.

The issue was the ammo bubble of the Obama years. It is not the people aren't buying, they have just cut back to the regular usage numbers. No need to "stock up, just in case..."

Every industry goes through things like this. They get into a bubble. Then it isn't a bubble, but a sausage. Then a belief sets in that things are going to be like this for-ever.

I've been buying from other peoples' stockpiles that now want to liquidate that prices have bottomed out.

Haven't bought any for some time. I understand you almost have to go through a background check to buy any in Kali now. Now I understand why some guys were hauling ammo away on hand trucks in the past at the local gun show.

...Only because I've been hoarding so long I don't have any space left to store it.

Just purchased 150 rounds of 20 GA for a recent West Texas quail adventure and upcoming pheasant hunt.

I am running out of room in my safe.

^^^^ Ha!

Being in Cali we can no longer order through mail. In L.A. (and maybe other counties) we get fingerprinted every time we buy ammo.

The article does mention those that might have been hoarding in years past...

Beat me to it. I am low on .45 and out of .40, but am fine on .22 and .223. I can't bring myself to make unnecessary purchases until the cash flow turns positive again. In fact, I renewed my range membership one day before I got canned. I went shooting last week and feel like I need to use that membership. But 200-300 rounds each time I go adds up.

yep. But my local sportmans warehouse has been out of large rifle mag primers for awhile now...

If anyone buys from SG ammo. He sends out a email with the doomsday sales pitch. But has been saying a few calibers have been at a 10 year low..... That said with the Russian ban. No surplus anything is coming in. I have been using Ivan the bear to get ak ass. through customs that is banned now. That said I did pick up a mosin that was a recent Ukraine import, but that's an oddity.

I can still get 5.45 for .23 a round but I can't imagine that will last much longer

I've been spending more money on baby food than ammo lately. When I visit family I buy a few boxes.

Just got 10,000 rounds of .22 for $400.00 delivered to my house. So I am doing my part to grow the economy. LOL.
