a bunch of engineers and a 5-gallon jug of water.

hahah..

a few of our office engineers; they are always the first to get to the office. old school guys. 65 years old, 75! years old. (refuse to retire). since they are first, they make the coffee. (yay!). we ended up with several free water jugs. the big bottles. these two old dudes were using a funnel to fill up smaller more manageable bottles.

in my friendliest and warmest, most supportive voice, i asked, "wtf are you two doing?" i worried they were gonna hurt them selves man-handling the big bottles.

i did this. hahah..

They make and sell the dispensers that safely hold them in place, and cool off the water. Lots easier to use, and sanitary.

This was free.

The water is never gonna come out that spout if you face it up like that.

Dunno if they have them where you are but we refill our water jugs at the supermarket.

Will look into that, we have one in the garage that you pump up with air to push water out the nozzle (PITA when water gets low)

No kidding. At best, there may be an inline filter from the spigot, worse, no filter and grungy, grimy, skanky people touching the dispenser area. No thanks.

If you fill up a couple gallon jugs with water, freeze them and toss them in your water cooler and it will stay cold a LONG time.

I have a cooler like that.

Gravity. Use the force. The oil pumps in our 911s are gravity fed. Ever notice that? INSTANT oil pressure on startup. Pretty elegant.

You can say the same thing about beer and soda taps in restaurants.

Umm, no.

Anything with a filter creates an environment with stagnant water ideal for fostering a community of bacteria.

Filtered drinking water usually has an order of magnitude more bacteria than the unfiltered stuff out of the tap.

I dropped one of those once. What a mess! I never thought it'd explode the way it did.

If I didn't already have an endless supply of filtered water, I'd think about a filter.
