Amazon Kindle

My wife and I are sorting through the detritus of her Mother's move from a large house to a small apartment in an assisted care facility.

I found a Kindle NIB with a cover NIB. We gave it to her years ago.

This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Y27P3M/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

Battery is inop - I tried all of the tips to reset it but it appears to be toast. I followed the instructions on removing the battery, which is this one: https://www.batterymart.com/c-amazon-gp-s10-346392-0100-e-reader-battery.html

My question: I have never used a Kindle but for $26 and shipping I'll have a old/new Kindle. Is it worth the effort or do I have another range target??

Thanks!

My wife has a kindle and loves it. I hate it because you're trapped in the Amazon walled-garden.

I had a Kindle Fire for a few years. Can't beat the price. Somewhat limited Amazon Apps vs what's out there in the Android/Apple world.

But was just fine for reading books, email, Pelican, FB and doing what most people use their tablet for. Not worth messing with the old one IMO......

For $40, you can't beat this price:

I have two Kindles that I use... and I like the technology a lot. One is a paperwhite like you gave your mom, the other is a Fire, which is more akin to an iPad. I prefer the Fire for indoor use, because it's big enough to use in a landscape mode - it's nice having two 'pages' open, more like a real book. The problem is, the screen glare when used outdoors (even on overcast days) renders it unusable, so then I bring out the paperwhite and live with the single page view.

Thanks for the replies - It is old even if it has never been used.

I also have an iPad so unless someone wants it, off to the range and then to recycling!

Call up Amazon customer service, tell them exactly what you told us and that you are disappointed that the battery is dead on a device you never even got to use. Dollars to donuts there will be a replacement (though likely a refurb) on its way to you before you hang up the phone.

My wife has a reader and likes it. You aren't limited to just Amazon, she reads library books on it all the time as well, plus you can add other books from somewhere I don't recall the name of just now.

They are nicer to read on than a tablet like a Fire, but the Fire is so cheap to buy.

I will do exactly that. Well done young man. To pull a quote from Forrest Gump: "Tishabet, you're a goddamned genius!"

My wife loves her iPad. She downloads free books from our metro library system. She has read hundreds of books, and never spend a penny, except for the iPad. She even got her 88 year old mother into reading books on the iPad.
