Clearly you've never seen the disgust hurled at the 944 "not a real Porsche" crowd.

Disgust hurled? Try saying that the '08-'09 Bullitt Mustang has been a reliable driver and a compromise car that does nothing in a spectacular manner, but everything pretty well.

Look what Ford did with the firebird. I think it deviated both new and old. Hopefully the bronco won’t be a let down...I won’t hold my breath.

I've had five 911's over my lifetime. I have two now.

My first two Porsche's were 914's. The first one was a miserable 75 with the 1.8. It was terrible. I loved it. It pulled me from muscle cars into European sports cars. But I quickly found out that I had the worst of all of the 914's.

The second one was a 74 2.0. Silver with black interior. Bought with bad valve. I rebuilt the engine in my parent's basement the winter of 1987 and never looked back.

Mile for Mile, I had more fun in that car (last two years of college) than any car I have ever owned, including one that I have now that had a $107k MSRP.

I agree with you, but I hate it every time that I am reminded how much the country clubbers hated the 914.

The boxster is in danger of becoming the next miata.
I know lots of people who look at a boxster as not masculine enough, a girl's car.

I don't agree, but the perception is there for many.

The M96 engine is garbage, the 986/996 interior is cheap and ugly, and 986 body styling is uninspired.
Other than that, Boxters are great.

I think my points are supported by the fact that both 944s and 914s are now selling for more than Boxsters.

I don't own one personally - my experience comes from the three boxster engine failures experienced by close friends with well maintained cars.

That said, I loved the 2015 Boxter GTS... an entirely different beast that I would buy in a heartbeat.

My above comments aside, if there were a reasonably easy engine swap available for the 986, for instance a VW 2.0T or a Toyota 2GR-FE, i could see the boxter maintaining some appeal.

Somehow I read right over it and knew exactly what you meant.

There has got to be a market for the cars people hated on.

Vega
Pinto
Gremlin
AMC Pacer

Seeing a car that survived the hate'n has gotta mean it's tougher than nails and eventually will earn some respect.

Like the boy who's parents really didn't like him, he got tougher than shint.

Oh god, the "exploding Boxster". I love when people say "my friend has had multiples blow ups". Oh please.
Wasn't it under 10% for single row IMS bearing cars for years 2000-2004 and under 1% for Dual row cars. I like those odds. If it's such a concern, replace the bearing for $2k and call it done. They can't be that ****ty, go to the track and you will be sure to see a bunch.

Honestly I think some idiots just need to bash the Boxster to justify the stupid price they paid for their car. These are the guys you meet and after 15 mins you know all about them and they know nothing about you. Self consumed with their awesomeness.

As someone wrote regarding the Boxster, "It's the smart persons's Porsche".

That is the trick.

Collector quality examples of those on the list are going to be hard to find.

I typically find that people who knock the Boxster don’t actually have any extended experience with one. That or they have some sexual inadequacy going on. They are fantastic cars and a freaking steal in the current context of Porsche pricing. But I also love the Miata so whatever.

One of the only reasons I grabbed the 1981 320i is because I think it will go up in value. I paid very little for an unmolested bone stock example with no rust.

My buddy has the exact same MR2 as they have in that article, he picked it up years ago, needing a clutch job. He purchased it as an investment.

He also purchased a Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 Spider because he thinks it will shoot up in value years down the road.

In 2010 I gave him a ride to Atlanta to pick up a 1991 BMW M3 that he purchased for $12,000 that is not a type-o.

I think 80's and 90's Japanese sports cars are going to take off, Conquests, RX-7's and Early sporty Toyotas like the Trueno (AE-86) are going to rocket up in price, I think a Trueno sold on BAT for big money recently.

I just looked it went for $20K.

I have owned several NARP's ........ 944S , 914 and now a Boxster S . Had two air cooled 911's before those and I liked them all when I owned them . Each has their own personalty and strengths and weaknesses . I can honestly say my current Boxster is the best of the bunch for me . I think it has classic looks , is comfortable and performs/handles/brakes far beyond my capabilities as a driver . I could care less what anyone say's about any of the cars I have owned in the past , I am driving them to impress ME and no one else . Yeah it's nice to have your ego stroked by positive comments but that lasts 5 minutes . I didn't buy any of the Porsche's I have owned as investments .......... I purchased them to drive and enjoy !
