Credit where it's due.
It's LEO's like this that I respect and support.
Being a jerk or a mensch are both conscious states of being. Neither takes any more effort than the other. Just decide which one you want to be. https://en.stories.newsner.com/news/bank-staff-call-police-over-angry-92-year-old-then-officers-actions-are-caught-on-camera-and-go-viral/?fbclid=IwAR3yS2nnpCOk_j4gADPMQ0Bfoxbx9ujaqLp-guOYNEXzS6B1VIoc5M9w1Po

The bank (BOA - no surprise) should have done better.
Stuff like this probably happens every day but we don't know about it. Thanks, Scott.....good story!

The bank couldn't have looked the other way this one time and asked him to go get a new I.D.? I used to have to call Social Security every once in a while for my father. To make it easier, I called as my father. They would ask a couple of questions like birth date that I couldn't quite remember, sometimes, and they would be understanding knowing my dad, and gobs of other elderly people who called, would not remember the answers to their security questions. A little humanity can go a long way...

I suspect cops do this type of thing a lot. It just does not make the news.
That man needs a different bank. I would change banks in a heartbeat if they did that crap to me or my family. Just because some pinhead back at corporate says and expired ID is not valid does not make it so. The man did not expire, the ID did. So what, he is still the same man. Long ago when I first moved to OKC I opened an account at a local bank. I took my paycheck to the bank, made my deposit and asked for $20 cash back. They said they could not give me cash back because the computers are down. I needed the money and I got rather upset. Finally the manager did on override and let me have the whopping 20 bucks of my money. For my next paycheck I went to a local credit union and opened an account. I drew down the money in that bank to just a buck, and considered it over. They had to send statements to me and finally charged fees to make the balance negative. They actually expected me to pay them money to close the account. I just laughed. They finally gave up and it all went away. It is the only way to "get even" with a bank. I cost them the postage and effort for as long as possible. I still sneer at that bank is I happen to drive past it.

How does an ID expire? A license I can see, but not the ID part of it. In WI we could use our expired license as an ID and they punched it so people knew it wasn't a valid license anymore.

And in kalifornia it's all about the $$$$$$$$ That reminds me: thanks to the gubmint, the nearly $50 driver's license I got last SEPTEMBER is no good for ID if I want to get on a plane. I need to GO INTO a DMV to get an O'fficial (federal) REAL ID driver's license and stand in line and pay all those fees AGAIN. Gotta love that gubmint! |

Cool story.

I let my license go stale. I had to gather everything. SS, birth cert and proof of address (gas bill) for the Fed driver's license. Could not find my SS card. Because of the stale ID I had to have my doctor put a letter together with my SS# on it saying I was a patient. Then they cut me a new card based on that.

The bank manager ought to be so proud of his staff for following policy...
Seriously though, the media exposure should be more about the ridiculousness of putting this poor old codger through the rig a mo role.

Credit where it's due.
We are lucky. In Oklahoma they have private enterprise in the form of a Tag Agent. I can walk into one of a hundred different tag agent offices, and get out as fast as it is possible to take my picture and process the paperwork. Maybe 10 minutes.
Same thing for a car tag renewal, only that takes 5 minutes. My tags for the 911 or El Camino cost me 21 bucks.
