Yes, Jack Reacher should not be a Woman. Or a Tom Cruise for that matter, though he does a good enough job acting the part it doesn't fit the descriptions in the books very well.

Rumor is scarlet Johansson wants an insane amount of money. Downey jr got only half a million for the first iron man. Hemsworth got less for the first Thor. The studio does not like spending money.

Right now all of them want an insane amount but during the original Avengers movie Joss wanted to do a Black Widow movie and the studio said no movies with a female lead. I bet they wish they had now.

Part of the reason they don't get as much money as they could is the fact that all of them that are CGI or otherwise don't have their face shown don't have enough screen time to justify it. Or so I have read.

I was dubious, but the studio has done a good job with casting for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not that some have to act much.

yup!! Jack Reacher is a hulk of a man. even described as "gorilla like" in one of the later books. casting a super handsome munchkin didnt fit the mold either. GREAT FUN BOOKS.

As for the Marvel movies, I have a teenage son so we go see them and they tend to be fun. It does get old with things being changed to be more PC, but I can find something worth watching in each one of them (think Vash's comment on women versus men in tights.....).

Indiana Jones and Laura Croft both made good main characters.

The trouble I have is when you move from relatable characters to forced cookie cutters in order to keep a small subset from objecting.

And there is also a problem, the people who object may not have watched what you did in the first place. In the entertainment industry it is very important to separate criticism from potential marker, and criticism from non potential market. This is one of the reasons NASCAR and the NFL are both in decline. They are trying to satisfy people who are not interested in being customers.

I am not the target market since when it comes to CG I'd rather the immersive experience of a video game over a movie.

For movies I prefer something that requires more human acting, real sets, etc... such as Buster Keaton.

The problem with taking a male character and swapping it to female is that you potentially lose your original base.

Better to make a new character, new name, etc. It is a different character, and will have different appeal.

Who would want to see Wonder Woman played by a man?

I thought Captain Marvel was terrible. I really liked Alita: Battle Angel, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and the first Jack Reacher. It doesn't seem important to me that the character in the movie wasn't a big guy. I'm sure not reading the books makes that easy.

Yea, she is hot, but not nearly "physical enough" and seems rather meek compared to the first move. It was an OK movie.

in the books, Jack Reacher bones EVERYBODY!! that first movie, the lawyer would have been fair game. (also the Major in movie two)

Actually, there are a number of female characters in the Reacher books that he doesn't hook up with. There's one that is featured in a number of the books, probably his closest friend.
