Capt. Marvel (Ms)

I watched Captain Marvel Wednesday night at premier in SWFL.

The film is frankly a bit of a mess.

The good: despite the suffrage agenda it wasn't too preachy, and the eye candy was delightful. Too many shape shifters to follow easily.

The Bad: in an effort to connect to an older audience multiple eras are meshed incohertly together. Early '80s police cars set part of an earth planet followed by songs and movie rentals from the '90s. Grunge and Smokey and the bandit cruisers coexist.

One has to wonder why they would make Capt. Marvel a woman. What next, Batman er um Batwoman. Suddenly it was all a dream, Batman was always a woman.

I will eventually watch it, when it is on HBO or Amazon.

They are going to fix us no matter how long it takes.

vash 03-07-2019 06:06 AM

who gives an eff? gender?

i imagine the fact that the movie is made up to begin with should supercede the reality that they swapped sexes on us. its a magical superhero movie.

if it bums you out, dont watch it, dont comment on threads, etc.

personally, i think the genre has slipped overall. there have been blips of brilliance and hope along the way, but in general..meh.

Yes sir!

Excellent call!

I never read comic books as a kid, so I generally don't watch the movies based on them. I watched a few of the early Superman and Batman movies, before I wised up but never watched the rest. Haven't kept up with the Star Trek, Star Wars and similar movies, either.

Meh...

Does it really matter if a fictional character is male or female?

Remember Blackula? Some folks had a problem with that too. We already have Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonderwoman.

Hollywood is aggressively manipulating and distorting in order to push their political agenda.

I prefer not to be a lemming.

Was captain marvel a popular comic? I remember Spiderman bur never was a big fan, my favs as a kid were Iron man/Xmen.. I'd never even heard of Captain marvel... Previews looked Meh... Doesn't sound like it's required viewing before the avengers part 2, right?

there's irony in there.

My question, is a new name used?

Supergirl vs Superman, different name, different character.

Me too, but Ms Marvel has a no acetal syndrome.

Shazam looks like it will be great though. Wasn't Captain Marvel a teen aged boy who got the Shazam thing from a lightning bolt or something? Do they make Billy Batson into Billie Batson.

The house of mouse is going to lose a fortune on Ms Marvel

Hollywood is constantly switching races and genders when resurrecting shows from the past. One Day At A Time is now a Cuban family. Ironside was Blair Underwood. Now there's talk of Idris Elba as the new James Bond. I'm just wondering when and how they're going to redo The Jeffersons.

The trouble is Marvel doesn’t own the film rights to its good female characters. That’s why we’re stuck watching this c lister chick.
