After dropping our 2015 Chevy Volt off at the dealer for a warranty replacement of its main hybrid battery units January 17th, 2024, she finally came home the end of last week. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now….. the question is “do we keep it or sell it?!?!?” Because I had to buy another commuter car since it was gone for 10 months and I killed my 95 GMC K1500, electrical mystery failure ![]() The GM Tec told me the hybrid battery replacement was a $19,000 bill for new batteries ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I decided to ditch my homemade flared front fenders on the 330 and go with stock fenders. After installing them, I don’t know why I flared them to begin with. 😂
Since these are pre-facelift fenders, I need to find used pre-facelift headlights. Notice how the left front wheel is covered in brake dust and tire worms compared to the right front wheel. This is from the track last weekend. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

My Hail-Marry failed… I am official out of ideas, plans and contingencies…
Replaced the distributor on the 95 GMC K1500 today in hopes that after 350K on the clock and the unexplainable issues that mirrored, fuel supply issues, plugged cat, timing issues, electrical, hell…. Who bloody knows at this point ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Timing is all over the place after setting manually and then when the computer is plugged back in. Reference points used in addition to making sure I was TDC, and everything went back in as designed. It still runs like crap…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well bugz, your volt won't ever be worth as much as it is now... so, of the two options id sell it and the truck and pay off the civic, buy a newer truck (since there's a glut now) and sell the civic at 30- 40k miles to buy an all ev (provided you live within 60 miles of work and have 220 charging and pv's at home). I really love my bolt, it's not as nice as a tesla but it's cheap and handles snow pretty well, it's had the battery recall work done and is quite dependable. I do burn up my studded snows every season though... i cant help but drive it like a rally car! Once I get my pv's up my total monthly cost for eclecticity will be less than $40 a month (i charge at work) my round trip mileage to work is 65 miles.
The really slick ace up my sleeve is the bolts drive system.... when they start charging road tax for ev's I'll stuff it in a 914 and get a bill of sale from a wrecker on the bolt.... pirate ev w/vintage registration and no tax liability!

Yeah, so true in the Volt’s price point. I just got an email from the Honda Dealer where the wife’s CRV was dropped off for some work. It’s the standard, we are interested in your used car type messages. I’m still looking into trying to pinpoint the value since the new batteries are in play. The Volt has been a good platform for me since I have the onboard generator that pushed electricity into the batteries. The major rub was the 10 months waiting for batteries. Like the Bolt, it handles very well since it’s so heavy. A guy across for our work hangar has a Bolt and went through the same battery issues that you did and he loves his too. That’s an awesome plan for the Bolt’s drive train in a 914, a rouge pirate EV is awesome. If we kept the Volt, I assume we would be out in double secret probation regarding the EV taxes. Gas tax for the 9.0 gallon tank and the EV road tax. ![]() The truck has sentimental value since it was my first new vehicle and now it’s entered the era of a desirable model. I know, emotional ties don’t carry weight, but that’s my dealio. Hitting the mileage on the civic won’t be an issue within the year. I’m sitting at 13K on the clock and that’s been since April, I drive a bit for work and always seemed to have a lengthy commute. ![]() The truck seems 80% and is lumpy after sitting overnight. It started and sounded and felt good while warming up but when things warmed up it felt quite lumpy. I have checked the grounds I am aware of and everything seems solid but I’ll check the manual to see if there was something I’ve missed. I may just make a swap on the grounds for giggles since anything is possible at this point. It’s an OBD-1 ECU and I haven’t even looked into that since I have nothing that could test it. A mechanic friend gave me an actual GM ODB computer I can plug into the port below the steering column. I haven’t found a solid operator manual, just “guides”, and it doesn’t help I can’t decipher the screen.. ![]() During this entire event, not one time has it thrown a code to illuminate the “check engine light”, and that doesn’t help. I know I’ve listed these items but here they are. Work done: New fuel filter Rebuilt TBI with new injectors New M.A.P. Sensor New I.A.C.V. New T.P.S. New ignition control module New coil module New plugs New cap New rotor New wires New O2 sensor New EGR valve New EGR solenoid New manifold temp sensor New K&N air filter New Distributor 11/3/2024 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Timing is still all over the place? You need to resolve that...unplug the computer and see if it will idle.

With the timing jumping all over, is there a sensor that is supposed to know were the engine is in rotation, like a crankshaft or cam position sensor that is bad?

---- 1995+ should be first year of OBD2 in America. (Canucks started in 1994) ---- I first suspect a clogged Cat. It's not breathing when the the tailpipe gets blocked. Use an infrared thermometer before and after the Cat pipe connectors. It should be 50-100deg after. Meaning stuff is burning up as it should. Strong pulse at the exit is mandatory.... Replace the old muffler if needed. I had an '84 Tercel which barely ran until a sudden 'pop'. Boom. Instant TRD powwwa again. The tailpipe was cracked before the muffler. The >5yo Midas muffler was completely clogged inside and had rusted out.

Polished the used headlights and installed them in the 330 this afternoon. One thing I could not get to work was the front running lights, on the outside of the headlights. The turn signals did work.
Did a little Google-fu and found out the E46 doesn’t have daytime running lights in the front, although you can code the high beams to run at a lower level, to act as running lights. ![]() ![]() |

Over the weekend, I was busy with my Porsche and Audi. Porsche came back from the paint shop for a hood and front bumper repaint. Of course, you know how body shops are with electrics. They broke one of the connectors for my front parking lights. The check parking light, light was one when I got the car back 6 weeks ago, but I let it sit so I don't mess up the paint while it was fresh. Pulled the front parking/turn/fog assembly out and found the broken connector. Rather hard to find that one, so installed a new pin for the female side and connected it. Voila, it works again! Now, just waiting for the connector to arrive wo I can do it right.
The Audi has had a sunroof stuck in the full tilt position for a few weeks. Looked at it the other weekend and was prepping to pull the sunroof out. Decided to try to close it manually. It worked a little, so I tried the motor itself. Motor works, but I hear a sound like the gears are slipping. Ordered a replacement motor and installed it over the weekend. The original one was fine. The problem was the gear shaft got a little loose and the gear was sitting too high. Looked at it and the shaft snapped back in place. However, I didn't want to have to deal with it again, so I stuck the replacement part in. Keeping the original as a backup.
