Getting the garden tractor ready for some snow.

Mounted wheel weights on the AG tires, and hooked up some LED cube lights off the front for some extra light on the blade. These little LED's put out some serious light. Yes- I should have mounted them higher, but for the time being this is a good start.

For the weights, I've got 60 lb JD weights on the inner, and 50 lb weights on the outer side of the rear wheels and 120 lb off the rear lift. That should dig her in. The cool thing is was using the car dollys to move the tires, as they get too heavy to move by hand. With the dollys- easy peasy!

As a follow up to last Saturday's work I replaced about 5' of the old '55 2"pipe which is really closer to 3/4" pipe once I got it out and had
a look at it.

I fixed up this 1920 singer. It was in a tattered old broken box so i spruced up the base and itll be good for display. It was very stiff i oiled it up and got it going also rewired it. It could use a new belt but im not going to use it anyway. I have a 1950 direct drive machine that i use for actual work.

I'm not keen on using caustic chemicals in pipes...
A few gallons of watered down vinegar for a half hour, followed by a full tub/sink/all hot water faucets/ flush might do that drainage system some good.

You and Masraum are doing some heavy-duty work. Kudos.

The cold water flow was weak in a bathroom sink, and the hot water flow was almost non-existent.
Both shutoffs were initially frozen but thankfully loosened up over time with a bit of patience.

I had a gifted 1-hole heavy duty replacement faucet which I intended on installing at first.
The replacement faucet turned out to be too tall and interfered with the cabinet doors above. Bummer.
(Always measure twice. Take parts in with you to match up..blah blah )

It needed a couple of foot long 3/8" 3/8"M/F-type hose extensions to reach the shutoffs. Sometimes they have to be extra long to not kink. Depends on the installation. (Many are now 1/2" connections so double-check everything before you start driving to the store)


While getting my fat butt off the floor, the countertop shifted and almost fell on top of me. It was not attached to the cabinets. wtf That's also when I discovered the sink drain was never connected after all these years of use. These pieces were just touching but somehow never leaked. wtf again

The pic doesn't show it but there was a noticeable 1/4" gap there. The finished trim surround was nailed/glued to the wall so the countertop was shimmed, then brackets. The countertop was only supported in four spots and needed more anyways.

First things first.








I removed the diffuser/aerator to help water move. Both shutoff valves were back on but now there was zero water flow hot or cold. Huh? Both shutoff valves could not be faulty at the same time. Must be the faucet. I opened the sink handle and hammered lightly all around the base for about five minutes until the faucet puked up a couple of pea-sized chunks of pink calcium rock. (a few layers of blue tape to avoid scratches) Now there was cold water but what about hot? Turned the valve back to hot and all the water stopped again. Crap. Turned the handle back to cold and banged on it another five minutes until it flowed again.



A nice fat and even ring of cushy plumber's putty around the new drain helped it bed in nice and flush. Scrape off the extra which squishes out. I use silicone grease on the PVC ring seals and rubber. I use tape on the threads (wrap clockwise when you're looking at the open end, not too much, and start at second thread). Work nice and slow. Don't over-tighten when working with rubber or ceramics.

A few fittings needed to be loosened so all the PVC would line up before tightening.


The sink is secure and half-way works for now. The shutoff valves have been exercised turn and seal. Hammering finally got the grit out and full pressure again. Everything cleaned up. The small things in life.

Nice job, John. I find household plumbing to be very tedious. Yet very satisfying, once completed.

I made a retractable charging cord for the EV. You can buy one on line but they want $1700. My retractable air hose for my compressor works so well I thought maybe I can retrofit one. They work by utilizing an air tight swivel at the hub. Instead of paying 1700. for an electric swivel reel I bought another air hose reel for $59. at Harbor Freight. I gorilla taped the middle of the 30' 110v electric cord to the reel (and salvaging the air hose) and when I pull it out to charge, the female end spools out from the bottom of the reel, the male end spools out from the top of the reel backwards onto the floor in my storage room on the other side of the wall and stays plugged in. Works like a charm! I also installed a 240v receptacle next to it but rarely charge the car with it.

Did a bunch of stuff over at Mom's today including repair of a small section of her front paver walk. At some point I need to patch the footer so it doesn't keep slipping outward.

I got this ts420 from an estate sale completely disassembled for basicly nothing. I had to put in a new piston bearings and seals filter and belt. Put it all back together runs great so i ordered a muffler. I dont have a concrete blade or a need for it but i might use it on metal for cutting up scrap and stuff. Got about 120. in it now if i dont use it this summer ill sell it in the fall.

Kinda dumb, but the grommets that held the straps on this shop apron failed, so I cut the soft tongue leather off a pair of old boots for reinforcement and sewed everything up tight. Good for another fifty years or so. You bet I kept the logos displayed. Those were nice boots, and even after years of good service they still had something left to give!
