My work truck is an '02 Silverado with 231K on the clock that I bought used in '05 w/90K miles. It's been a great truck! 1500 2WD extended cab w/full 8' bed and 4.8L engine.
It came from the factory as a base model so I had power windows installed not long after purchase. It's an aftermarket kit that has servos that drive the manual cranks under the door panels with two rocker switches mounted in the dash. The driver's side broke it's sprocket teeth a few years ago so I just disconnected the servo and re-installed the manual crank, which wasn't a big deal to me, as long as the passenger side remained powered. So despite applying multiple applications of silicon spray over the years to help lube the windows, the passenger side finally got too "resistant" so the servo wasn't strong enough to operate it. My guess is the regulator has some corrosion and if replaced with a new one, I'll be back in business. It still has the stock "manual" regulator, but the replacement I bought is powered. I'm thinking it's just two wires to spice into it that go to the switch on the dash and it should work just like the aftermarket setup. I just hope the regulator is a same spec replacement. Going to try and do the job tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see. Be nice to have the window go up and down smoothly again. I miss that. If this works I'll do the driver's side. |
Didn't have enough time yesterday for the regulator so got it done this morning. Took 1 hour total. Not bad.
Window goes up and down really nicely now - zero issues. I just ordered another for the driver's side which will be here on Saturday. They are only around $44 each. There are two brackets that clamp down on the bottom edge of the window that use a 10mm bolt. In the last photo I have the window partially down to convey it's working. :) There are some YT vids if you want more info but it's super easy if you have a modicum of mechanical skills. |
My wife got a Keurig K-Cafe machine from her sister a few weeks ago. The machine had suddenly stopped working, power wouldn't come on at all, so being that she only had the thing a few months, Kohls just replaced the thing with a new one and told her she could just keep the old one, so my wife gets it thinking I could probably fix it. Well I found lots of videos about fixing Keurigs but apparently this model is different and ya really can't fix much on it, anyway, I couldn't get it to power up and we were just going to toss it out. Well, I'm glad we hadn't tossed it out yet. Last week while I was at my Sister's house she had a Keurig that she had gotten and didn't have it for very long when it started leaking water. She put the machine back in it's box and just got another one, (said she couldn't figure out how to take it apart), and anyhoo, she said I could have it. This Keurig is. K-Elite model in a bronze/gold color. Once I got the machine apart I could see some water stains in one area, so with the case open, I put some water in the reservoir, plugged it up, turned it on and watched for leaks as it dispensed some hot water, took about a second to see that it was leaking through a pump. Having had the other Keurig apart I saw that it used the same type of pump, so I just removed the leaking one and replaced it with the pump from the K-Cafe!!! My daughter babysits a little 15 month old boy that I call "Little Dude". She babysits him at our house so we have gotten a few toys for him lately, we are friends with his parents and Grandparents so he is family to us. So today my wife and daughter went to the Goodwill store and found some pretty cool Vtech toys. One of toys is a guitar called a "Zoo Jamz Guitar" and it wouldn't work because the battery connectors were very rusty. It was very strange, there weren't signs of battery corrosion but the connection points for the two AA batteries were all rusty. I took the toy apart and was able to clean the connection points and now it works perfectly. It was a little tough removing the part that needed cleaning but once I got it out, I used a wire brush and some wd40 and then used some sandpaper to clean it all up and now the little guitar works again. Restoring one of my dad's 1966 steering wheels. I'm going to commit heresy and mount it on my 78' sc. I should have gotten a 'before' pic, but removed 50 years of varnish, and am filling in the cracks with epoxy and ebony sawdust. I've sandblasted the metal parts and the arms are in primer. First black coat on the batwing. New leather insert and ring on the batwing. This thing is going to rock! 420mm on an sc is like a boatwheel, but it steers like butter, much more like a longhood than a G body.
Fitting the 66 wheel to the 78 was a pia. Added a 30mm spacer, had to extend the turn signal cancelling tab, and fabricate a arse-backwards horn ring assembly. So much better than the grand prix racing atari wheel that was on it though. Sitting in the sun letting the epoxy set. My dads impala driver seat back was crookid because they are only supported on the outside and kinda fold at an angle to get in the back easier. Well the spot welds on the frame popped loose because he pushes on it when he gets in to adjust his butt. I was able to peel back most of the uphulstery to weld and reinforce it. Definatly not the strongest design the frame work doesnt even go very high the top 8" of the seat is entirely just springs.

Not really fixing, more like preventive maintenance. Lubing one of my wife's sewing machines. This one is all mechanical vs the computer driven ones she also has. The shop gets a min $150 for this so it's worth my time to do it for her. I've even learned how to check the timing on them which they charge extra for.

I have two Lincoln pistol grip grease guns and years ago (like 30 years!) someone took the T handles from them as a prank or maybe they needed them more than I did.
Today I needed to load one for a job and disassembled the pump to clean. Looking at the threads on the follower rod, found the appropriate tap, drilled and tapped some 5/8 round bar and painted and installed it. Works like a charm. My dad would have approved the method and the cost ($0). It makes me happy to remember my dad this way. April 1 was the 3rd anniversary of his passing. |
