The door hinges on the javelin need to be re bushed. Got the doors off today, blasted and epoxied the hinges. Also finished the ww2 insignia.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1708653515.jpg

It looks like you're building a giant AirFix model. Beautiful color. It's hard to tell, are the invasion stripes black and white or blue and white? Either or, they look great!
|
Funny, it's an rv4 so it is small. The invasion stripes are black and white... they've been wet sanded to prep for clear.
|
When my dad was alive and living in the airpark (Sunrise Skypark Airport (ID40)) two of his neighbors were building rv4's. I was lucky enough to get a ride in one - what a nice little airplane; lots of performance, and that big open cockpit made it feel like we were in a fighter plane.
Thanks for bringing us along on the build. (As always!) I should have said bubble canopy, not open cockpit. |
My pleasure Herr O. Today I had one of my grandsons helping... I steal him away as often as possible. My brother and I bought a pile of old 4' deep pallet racking this week. It was hideous... rust on the ends scratches etc... blasted what needed blasting then etching primer over the blasted bare spots then black summit epoxy. The shocker was we actually got the final top coat on today... a can of mtk mismatch I got from the auto body supply place. Even more amazing is we got to do it all outside in t shirts.... 60 degrees in northern Ut! I'm extremely stoked about how we'll be using them! Stay tuned.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1708829622.jpg

Nice work there, Guy!
I sold turf and ornamental care products for 10 years and we used pallet racks in our drive through warehouse stores......I'm very familiar with their assembly and disassembly! You can't see them in these photos but they occupied half my store....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1708833566.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1708833566.JPG |
Spent Saturday getting the 330 ready for the track in two weeks. Bled the brakes, rotated the tires, topped off the oil, and notched the front strut towers to get more negative camber. I’m going to swing by Morehead Speed Works in Columbia Friday 3/8 on the way to CMP for an alignment.

Thanks, Guy! Not my company.....but I got in at the right time in 1990. And my store was in Ft Myers.....more golf courses per capita than anywhere in the world. It was a lucrative market! I was the manager at that location with just one other employee...my assistant manager. Over the next 10 years I learned a LOT about selling and managing! Worked my butt off too! ;) Quote:

Painted my bike it was pretty bad but I buffed it out and its much better. Got some patina like an 80s paint job would so im happy. Just have to finish mounting the tank and put some decals on and its done. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1708908953.JPG

Ok, I've never seen one of those... what is is besides a kawasaki?
|
It was a kawasaki klt200 3 wheeler I made a swingarm and the tank is a suzuki tank i widened out because it just had an under seat tank before. The front fender is a yamaha yt125. So its more like a Kawayamazuki

Gave the little Super Snark it's first bath today and it cleaned up pretty good. There are only two or three spots where I will need to fill and other than some scuffs, she's pretty good to go. I also have the sail soaking in some Dawn dish detergent and going to give it a good scrubbing, rinse and repeat until it is clean.
I think I shall name the little boat "Hundo" because I only paid 100 bucks for it. Lol. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4caf682005.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4ffadec793.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ca9b644a57.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...76b2eedb82.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...543b30204f.jpg Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk |

Haven't had to do the brakes on this vehicle until now 127k Ford Explorer, but when did they go to screw in caliper pistons and why?

So far today I've: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709481361.jpg Put a second coat of shellac on this old sewing machine case I'm fixing up. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm making a good progress. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709481361.jpg Reconnected the wifi for the hot tub, the generator, and the security camera. The same storm that made the mess you see here roasted my wifi extender. Later I get to clean up the leaves and branches. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709481361.jpg And I managed to drop a sanding block on the new paint on my Speedster and put a nice scuff mark in it. AND IT'S NOT EVEN NOON YET! |
Nothing to brag about, just a very minor project.
I have a bathroom in my garage. The toilet in there is the original builder's grade toilet. To original 29 year old seat broke at the hinges. I replaced it with the new seat. I have a sign on the toilet tank that says the seat is to remain up at all times except if in use. It is MY bathroom! I upgraded the toilets and seats in the house long ago, but the garage bathroom did not get that upgrade. My next "big" project will be to replace the door handles from round knobs to a handle that I can easily open the door with just one pinky finger, and not have to use a paper towel to open the knob for when my hands are all greasy or oily. |

The Missus wants a cold frame. I repurposed some of the lumber from the run in shelter. Still have to paint the frames for the glazing (repurposed windows saved from the house). It will be knocked down into sections and set up at the south east corner of the porch.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709499146.jpg
I still have to fit hinges and handles after the glass is in. Best Les |
Brought my SIL’s 2006 Explorer over to do some maintenance. Replaced the broken left tail light, installed new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, coil, and Installed a pigtail on the throttle body wiring.
Fired it up and had a misfire from something. Replaced the throttle body and seems to be running smoother now. Ran out of daylight, so I’ll have to test drive it tomorrow. Don’t you hate when you do some maintenance and something happens to make it run poorly. 🤬 Edit. I finally figured out the problem, I mixed up a couple of plug wires at the coil pack. The correct order is 123465… 🤔 Today I installed a fuel filter and will take it back to their house. N |
Gteat job on the cold frame Les. Good luck with your garden.
I'm fixin' and not fixin' today ... These iron skillets were caught in a flood in Vicki's basement some 20 years ago and they've been waiting for some TLC ever since. I had them sitting by my blasting cabinet waiting for me to have walnut shell in the cabinet again. Today was the day. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709657355.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709657355.jpg This is just a Lodge skillet, nothing special, and it was the worst rusted. I blew the crusty rust off and discovered some serious pits. These can be bought brand new. Not gonna be fixin' it. I'll paint it flat black and hang it on the garden wall. On the other hand... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709657355.jpg This 12" chicken fryer was Vicki's grandmothers. It's a Wagner with a plated (nickel?) exterior, and worth spending some time on. It didn't have terrible rust, cleaned up pretty well, and all it needs now is to be re-seasoned. Now - back to the Speedster, and the refinishing, and the quilting machine, and .... |

I just build stuff.
The gardens are her domain. I have been banned from the gardens ever since the unfortunate asparagus incident of 1992. ( Hey!They looked like weeds.) That pan came out very nicely. Good save. Best Les |
Looking good Big Les! ;)

I have a couple driveway gates I cobbled together a few years ago for my circular drive.
This one came apart the other day where the vertical 2x4 attaches to the post. The caster wheel also lost it's locking capability so I replaced it as well as the hinges and put a new vertical 2x4 in - an 8' this time. I also added short sections of 2x4 at the lower corners to help strengthen things a bit. Little tricky doing it by myself but luckily it wasn't super windy. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709863288.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709863288.JPG |
Aileron cables exit the wing through the fabric on these wings. To do so with this very expensive German fabric covering, it requires a gromit at any holes in it.
We made aluminum gromits bonded them at the cable exits then covered with vinyl exit patches as it would have looked from the piper factory.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709865249.jpg |

Very nice, Guy! Nice photos. too. Thanks for sharing! |
I pulled my instrument cluster out of the javelin Tuesday... to get to my door hinges off... wow the factory did a rotten job wiring this thing... rats nest is stock.. Anyway, I have a repop harness complete with Packard style factory connectors... after seeing how the factory jammed the harness in there I'm thinking it's either a beeotch or they just didn't have the time to be tidy-er....
I have no idea what to expect when installing the new one.... here's mud in your eye.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709866212.jpg |
Thanks Baz

Yup.... lots of work. The owner of the company that distributes the covering in the US beats the drum about how much quicker it is to install his system over the other "legacy" systems... . I don't see it. I love the product, it's revolutionary, the issue I take is its naked nature... ie, no painting required. Because of this, it's extremely easy to have a crappy looking finish, thus the extra time. Extra time also because the wing requires epoxy priming...prior to covering..... Extra time to apply and dry two coats of adhesive to the air frame and the covering....
The biggest issue for me is the silly appearance of the job upon completion (not opaque, similar to a tissue cover job on a balsa model) and the difficulty of keeping it clean... In short not the same processes as legacy.... just different processes with almost the same time commitment. Why use it? It can save 20-30% in weight. |
My winter project car
74 Alfa project bought in December 2023. I replaced the head gasket and retimed the cams. The intake cam lock nut tab was halfway broken off and the exhaust cam was missing the indexing bolt. This thing was a mouse condo during a lengthy storage period. On the plus side it came with lots of new interior restoration parts and has the aftermarket square tube subframe addition. DP

Started replacing the stock M54 oil filter housing with a S54 oil filter housing. This will allow me to properly install an oil cooler. My old system utilized replacement oil filter housing cap that had AN fittings on it. It was a pain when I came time to change the filter on it.
Hopefully, I have all the parts to finish it tomorrow. Existing oil cooler set up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710045357.jpg Stock M54 oil filter housing removed. Lots of oil leaking. The oil filter housing gasket needed to be replaced anyway. Now, I’m killing two birds with one stone. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710045357.jpg What it will look like with the S54 oil filter housing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710045357.jpg |
Finished fitting the new leading edges to the left super cruiser wing yesterday and re installed the nut plates to the landing light recess... it looks pretty ugly but it there's no corrosion... a quick wire brush scotch bright and paint it'll look much better. I also put backing fabric on the seat to test fit the owner on the new set foam. He flew the beech in this morning, stunning airplane!
