I like to believe you're livin' the dream, Guy. (Maybe a little less-so than your wealthy clients, but adjacent, for sure!)

As always, thanks for bringing us along.

I salvaged glass from a couple of old thermopane windows and installed them in the frames for the cold frame (pictured at the top of the previous page). Since the middle two lites hinge to the sides, I thought it best to add some mechanical fasteners around the perimeter. After bedding the glass in latex caulk, I drilled the frames for small brads then added more caulk. To seat the brads I used a large pair of channel lock pliers to gently push them into depth. Worked like a charm. I hate using a hammer around old glass.
Now I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up enough to get it set up where she wants it.

Nice job, Mark!

The guy across the street two lots over has been moving stuff off his property for a month or so now.

Leaving multiple garbage cans with wood trim in them at the curb.

They moved in a year or so back but I've never met them.

By all appearances it looks like he's bugging out.

This afternoon he was up on his roof taking a sledge hammer to his chimney. Really whacking away. Looked like the chimney was winning....lol....

His shingles are all torn up so I'm expecting a re-roof job in the near future.

Will try to get some pics...and maybe a vid if he starts on that chimney again...that was some pretty good entertainment. ;)

rsrguy 03-13-2024 03:14 PM

Just a recover... uh... nope
This got by an annual and flew quite a distance to get here for the recover.
Maybe its a pma tso tie and it's legal...

Good old cable ties! ;)

Hey my neighbor has a dumpster out front. He must have gotten his chimney demoed because I don't see it anymore.

Maybe it's going to be remodeled?

Lot of that going on around here....a lot!

oldE 03-14-2024 04:23 AM

Guy, is it just me or should the shop that did the annual on that have their certification lifted?
Screwing around like that can get someone killed.
How do you handle something like that?

Maybe it was an inspector, maybe it was someone else. There isn't any way to know beyond speculation... it'll be right and have a complete annual when it leaves. That's what matters at this point.

The worst thing that could have happened was a forced landing in the desert....

Anyone ever try to Weld Plastic together?

Hit a tree with my ATV and shattered the 1/8" thick front fender.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710904305.jpg

Just bought a Harbor Freight welding kit that uses a heating element to melt steel mesh on the backside along the cracks. For $20 going to use that steel mesh as a base foundation to lock together the jigsaw pieces of Humpty Dumpty.

Going to have to be careful not to melt through the top coat. Hope to save the fender color of Immersion Blue that was only made for 2007 2008. So used ones on the market are rare or unobtainium.

Anyone played with one of these?

I just used a short section of nail in a small soldering iron to melt and blend plastic in the nose of my Craftsman lawn mower. It was only 30 w and took a while.

First was Saturday and time for a new garden for my master gardener wife. 1.6 tons of rock delivered.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710963522.jpg

The new one is made of the same rock used on the last flowerbed extension into the yard. The rock comes from a quarry in SE Oklahoma. We built the first one several years ago.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710963703.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710883821.jpg
I asked Mrs. Carrera three times if she wanted a sprinkler head inside the new flowerbed. She was sure she did not. Then today, guess what, she changed her mind to want one in there. So I had to go get a taller spray head, and dig under the new wall, and move the head inside. It will water the garden and the yard. But of course I asked if she wanted it in the middle, and she said yes. So I dug a hole and then she decided it needs to be off center so she can plant a blacklace elderberry dead center. So dig one more shallow hole, and the sprinkler head is there. No more change orders!

The new flowerbed is where a tree was that had to be removed from ice storm damage. So all of the area is FULL of tree roots. It is really fun too dig through roots. ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710884291.jpg

I covered the hose with chips from the wall build to help prevent damage to the hose when she is planting.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710884411.jpg

Then she said while you are out here in work clothes, lets see if we can find the leak in the Koi pond. I found it. The glass tube that protects the UV bulb broke. That fried the UV bulb and the connector as well. I just capped the fitting with a 1 inch threaded cap. to be 100% sure that is what was leaking.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1710884731.jpg
For right now, no UV bulb in place but it was fried and non functional anyway. We have a new bulb, but I need a new socket and glass tube as well before I can put it back together. That has to happen fairly soon.

Next is a trip to the soil place to get a pickup load of "rich mix" soil made from compost of cow crap. And then we get to shovel in in one wheelbarrow load at a time to bring it to several inches below the top. That will be a lot of fun.

She has already bought some plants to plant in the new garden. Soon it will look like this one.

I recently bought one of those UV plastic glue kits and was super surprised how well it repaired a broken plastic tab on some trim for my DD. haven’t really stressed it yet, but my finger test didn’t snap it off.

Not familiar with plastic welding kits but I have repaired cracks in the plastic of my ATVs. I used a soldering iron to melt in small steel washers across the crack, then melted zip ties onto the repair. After sanding and rattle can paint it looks pretty good. If you didn't know it was repaired you probably wouldn't notice it. Beats buying new body parts

The fella I mentioned who was knocking down his chimney has now gone full on with a home renovation.

A buddy of mine just completed his - same thing. Take it all out except a few walls. Then you don't have to jump through all the permitting hoops like those who do a total demolition.

I got an old tent garage that my neighbor had it blew away and the tarp got shredded so he gave me the metal for scrap. Alot of it was cut instead of taking the bolts out so I had to weld it back together first. It was higher than i liked so i took the lower legs off of one side. Its on a hill anyway. I put it in a dry spot up in my woods so it shouldnt need a base. I used metal i had from an old swimming pool zip screwed it on top and wood on one side. Im still piecing together the other side I have some roofing metal and other scraps around. It will be great for tractors and wheelers and snowblowers that are all taking up way too much room in my other sheds. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711057640.JPG

Super glue and baking soda is supposed to work.
I've usually used the 2-part epoxy and glued a patch on the back.

I bought that too. Works like a charm if you take your time and get everything prepped and ready. (practice helps, too) I think it was 10 or 15 bucks!!

Bought an M3 style front bumper cover for the 330. Then while I’m in there, I thought I would reinstall the original ductwork to the radiator and relocate the oil cooler. I ordered new O-rings for the oil cooler Monday and they’re supposed to be here today but are a no-show. Unfortunately, I’m dead in the water until they show up…

I've been working on the Snark. I repaired the missing strip of veneer on the rudder by filling in the gap with some clear epoxy and then decided to paint the rudder blade and the daggerboard gloss black. Today I masked off the "mast seat" and painted it gloss black also to match the rudder and daggerboard. I put a small beach umbrella in the mast sleeve to provide a little shade. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e002476c85.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ec8a5df4a6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6f49777db1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7160405e2c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...80342632f0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...55e2a7ee99.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6c50239665.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...620f0454f8.jpg

Coastal areas in San Diego, they knock down everything but a door frame and call it a remodel.

Not quite. The CA Coastal Commision (I'd love to insert a PARF comment here) has jurisdiction from anywhere from 1000 yards to 5 miles inland for any improvements. Then there's the local jurisdiction.

One way to declare construction of a new home a remodel is to leave one wall standing and use a large percentage of the original foundation footprint. I have often seen the fireplace wall the one that is left. That's funny because new wood burning fireplaces are not allowed in many areas. So one wall gets to be grandfathered while a mcmansion is built.

Evans, Marv 03-31-2024 09:02 AM

^^^^^ That's exactly happened where I live. The guy built on the previous foudation and replaced everything resulting in a new house. Not a McMansion, but a very nice house on the old footprint.

A930Rocket 03-31-2024 06:08 PM

It doesn’t look much different than my last picture above, but it’s all back together. I still still need to install the two fillers between the headlights and the front bumper. We’ll see what happens at the track in two weeks….

I put a couple of coats of polycrylic on the mast seat and reinstalled the cleat for the halyard, all done with that. My wife, Sister-in-law, and daughter have been working on this dining table and chairs. My wife found the table at Goodwill, paid 50 bucks for it, stripped it and sanded it all herself. She got the chairs for 10 bucks each at our Re-Store. The chair backs and legs are black and the bottoms will be stained to match the table. Glad to see her progressing with this project as it has been taking up lots of space in the storage building, lol. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4ffcb6d987.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8af3317cc3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6f785036ea.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f44ad66612.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...24efe3e979.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2e5bc1791c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d08ec75f89.jpg

In between my other "fixin' it" projects, I came across this pair of shears while walking my dog. They hadn't been out in the elements too long - long enough to rust, but not long enough to rust solid. I coated them with naval jelly and left them for an hour.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712051943.jpg

Here they are with naval jelly on them. (No "before" pics. Sorry)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1712051943.jpg

After a good scrubbing and some oil they are like new (almost). They are only 4" long, which is a great size for clipping tomato blossoms and deadheading flowers. I'm glad to have them.

HobieMarty 04-02-2024 06:44 AM

Awesome to find tools like that and get them usable again.
