I'm thinking of creating a previous owners registry.
Headlight wiring on the 900SS. Wow, good eye!!! That 63 has quite the story!!! It is a custom deal, shaved door handles, drip rails, trim, air ride, has been in the process of being built for many years. The guy building it never finished anything but it was always 2 weeks from being finished. After he had the garage built at his house my Brother-in-law went and retrieved the car. When I dropped off the wheel covers he showed me all the things wrong with the car and it is quite the mess. It has a 383 stroker with a 5 speed tremec in it though and It is a mess but at least it is home.
Here are a few pics of it when it was in the shop. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...08383eafd6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1589f38719.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2245d2e1bd.jpg Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk |
Continuing Thread: What Are You Fix-It'ing Today?
Some concrete action today..
Before https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9be07e4e90.jpg After https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2fe08e1c6a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b477ba5d0a.jpg Pretty dang lucky the form didn’t blow out. Captain dumb-chit here failed to cross brace the bottom. Needless to say, you can see how it bowed…[emoji849] I find it amazing how you find your error weeks later after it goes into play and not able to do a thing about it. Other than give it your best “oh-chit!!! [emoji1695][emoji1695][emoji1695][emoji1695][emoji1695]” face. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b4d26cb979.jpg Ok class, next week we will review how to build proper forms….[emoji849][emoji849] Bottom step and drain in place.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6dffb112d4.jpg Onto the tool review. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...084b7ad805.jpg After blowing out a new bag every time I used the grinder, yielding this…..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...55794e2826.jpg I had to find a better solution since I spend a small fortune on replacement bags and filters. A buddy told me about the DustStopper and I will admit, it sounded gimmicky, like Shamwow gimmicky. I was wrong, very wrong, this thing is the bomb and it actually works!!! I’m using Gen-1 and now HD sells the updated design. It separates the fines and debris before reaching the shop-vac. If you work with wood, grind blocks or any other task requiring you to use the vacuum for dust control, give this a try. No, I have no affiliation with the company, just a humble DIY shmoe. Debris trapped after two steps were ground with a 7” grinderhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9394d8780a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...474f6fbdb4.jpg And the filter and bag after grinding…. If you recall, the previous session yielded a blown bag and a packed filter. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...216a22a397.jpg I’m sold!!! They are a little spendy for what it is, and you still need a 5 gal bucket. My buddy bought this a few years ago, paid $20 and never used it. That’s how I ended up trying it out. Stay calm and DIY on. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
For the last several years, I’ve had a foster dog, so didn’t spray any weed killers in the back yard.
This spring I was dog less, so I sprayed at least three applications and there were so many weeds that my backyard was about 60% dirt afterwards. We finally have gotten some cooler temps and I also plumbed in a hose bib back there. I’m three days in on my seeding and watering. Always an interesting process as after 6 or 7 days, you start thinking the seed was bad and then in what seems like overnight, you have a green “5 o’clock shadow”! Wish I would had taken a picture of the lush weeds, but here’s the wet dirt with seed http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694464543.jpg |
Damn Shaun, that’s not pretty. I had the shop check mine when they went over the bike but I need to pull mine and make sure it isn’t like that!

The back bathroom sink faucet is dripping. This has fallen on me to fix in the upcoming days.
What kind of fitting am I looking at on the copper pipe end of the shut off valve? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694467419.JPG I put this in many moons ago and can't remember now. The faucet doesn't have any means of removing just the handle to replace a cartridge. I was thrifty back then. The shut off valve is stuck open as well. I'm waiting for a time when we can go without water if needed for a time before tackling getting them working. With the heat we're having today I don't want to shut down the water system while I futz with this job. Did I tell you I hate plumbing jobs? I don't bend that way any more but don't have a real choice this time. |
I’m guessing that you have a compression fitting on that sink valve. You’ll have to cut the ferrule off to remove the nut, but you might be able to just get another valve and reuse the nut and ferrule.
Good luck to you! |

But yes, I am definitely enjoying fixing all the little things and making the bike my very own. OCD can be a lot of fun. :) Only thing left to do on it is get red mirrors. And maybe clear all the carbon fiber this winter. It is so much fun to ride! |

good idea and if even a hint of heat on the socket I'd get the Dorman H4/9003 ceramic sockets at any local parts store. Nice piece of mind. |
They're all like that if you run high wattage bulbs. 911's no different. Didn't know about the Dorman part, thanks Shaun.

Free salvage food processor. Cleaned up and works fine. I just need to replace the bowl, blade, lid. |

A problem bear keeps breaking into the kitchen at the camp where my daughter sometimes runs the kitchen. During his last foray, the bear smashed a prep table and destroyed the equipment on it, including the kitchen's Robot Coupe. The camp wrote the RC off as a total loss, replaced it, and gave the "remains" to my daughter who say "I bet my dad can fix this". Well, I think all that happened was the bowl etc were smashed, The base, motor, controls are fine. The bowl etc are not cheap, but much cheaper than the whole machine. I'm going to go hunting on used stuff sites.

Last November, I bought a house built in 1896. All of my fix it time revolves around that now. Temps are starting to drop so I’ll probably start painting again.

Did some pruning this morning before it got too hot and then put a top coat on a couple wood benches to give it some glossy texture after 2 coats of primer paint....
I used the one I'm pointing to: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694611706.JPG Also doing some fairing repairs for my red VFR: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694611706.JPG Later will get back to finishing the hydraulic clutch repairs.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694611847.JPG |
Got around to replacing the sink faucet this morning. Only had to buy a new faucet. The shut off valves were a pain, but finally gave in to some gentle persuasion and the flex lines were good to go too.

^^^ Just curious...and I'm sure you have reasons.
If replacing the faucet, why did you go with a two handle? I know others that I have asked the same and most of them just say "I don't know why" Myself...I like a single handle for temp control. |

This is considered my wife's bathroom. She wanted a two handle so I got a two handle. This is at the end of the hot water run, ie it's the furthest from the hot water heater which is located up front in the garage. Getting hot water takes a while so temp regulation isn't really a problem. At least I've never heard her complain about it. The old faucet was one I put in 15 yrs ago or so, I think. I know I put it in and we didn't have a lot of money to spend on it so it was a cheap one (Glacier Bay) from HD.
This one is a Delta and should out last me, I hope. I'll be feeling this little exercise tomorrow I'm sure. At 72 I don't bend like I could back in the day. |
^^^ Thanks....I understand now.
I didn't know about the short life of the single handles....gives me something to look forward to.:) Changing a faucet out is a bad position to be in...esp if it's in a smaller vanity. |

Of course that technique may not hold up in a multi-person household; I only have to accommodate me. |
Fun
Finished building my panel overlay today... didn't want to build a replacement blank yet because we'll likely loose the g meter and transponder in a couple months. The iPad mount is a guardian unit and seems to work very nicely.

Well I know what ill be fixing tomorrow. Got a call back on the mower i fixed. The guy didnt know to turn the gas on and now the starter doesnt work. He made it sound like it wasnt his fault but I think it probably was.

Handyman side hustle......hang a used hollow core door in a remodel rough opening. After squaring up the bottom of the door and ripping it to the final width there was no remaining frame on the hinge side or the bottom and the door was now 3/4" too short. Milled a new core frame out of 2 x 4 and re-skinned the bottom extension with fiberboard. The extension will not show after final painting. Turned out great.

Prior to cutting. House had serious foundation problems - repaired by new owner.

^^^ Lol...I have a 10X14 ft wood shed with doors that I had to do that to also.
The cement pad approach is too close to a tree and the roots keep raising the pad each year. So I take the door off and trim a little each time. Your fixed door looks great. |

Yep - my front door rubs at the bottom. It sucks and I have been procrastinating doing the repair. I did it many years ago too.
You should see it after we get a hurricane.....lol......talk about dragging...... |
Still no germination; been about a week and I’m at the I wonder if the seed was bad or I did it wrong stage!
Foster dog checking it out and being surprised every time the sprinkler gets him wet... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694726879.jpg |
^^^ Might try a bale of straw. After seeding, lightly cover it with the straw and then soak it down.
The straw will keep the moisture at the seed level. (as long as the seed is barely pushed into the soil) A week would be the minimum for seeing new growth. |

This seed came with a sort of water holding mulch product mixed in. I’ve been to this rodeo before and it always surprises me how it appears nothing is growing and then all of a sudden you have a green beard growing. Rutager |
^^^ Great...you should be good then.
I usually figure at least 10 days here in MI before I can see the sprouts. |
Todays handyman project - hang a pocket door in a metal Rocket Pocket Door metal frame. Cannot shoot finish nails into the metal door frame so I used construction adhesive to install the split jambs. Locktite PL375 adhesive has a 48 hour cure time and does not expand so the jambs will remain flush with the door edge in the open position. Used blocking with pin nails to hold jambs flush and maintain uniform gaps while the adhesive cures. First pocket door install for me and I'm calling it a win!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694746046.jpg In this pic the door with attached split jambs is pulled away from the frame while construction adhesive is applied to the metal frame. The the door is thenl opened fully while the flush jambs are pressed into the adhesive (i.e. wet set like tile installation) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694746135.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694746135.jpg |
